Role Overview
Amazon is seeking a highly experienced Systems Development Engineer to lead the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) initiative. This innovative project aims to introduce utility computing (UC) services in Europe, requiring a strong background in automation and operations.
The successful candidate will join the AWS Managed Operations team, working closely with global AWS teams to launch the ESC and influence the evolution of AWS services and technology.
This role involves collaborating with technology leaders, enhancing day-to-day operations, and ensuring improvements in availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC. The engineer will participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents occurring out-of-hours.
Responsibilities
1. Oversee the launch of the ESC and collaborate with global AWS teams.
2. Influence the evolution of AWS services and technology.
3. Collaborate with technology leaders to enhance day-to-day operations.
4. Ensure improvements in availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC.
5. Participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents occurring out-of-hours.
Requirements
* Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
* Successful applicants must have the legal right to work in Ireland/Germany.
* Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the European Union.
* This position involves On-call responsibility.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
* Experience with coding and automation in at least one modern programming language such as Java, Typescript, Python, or Ruby.
* Familiarity with Linux, using the command line and basic administration, and computer networking fundamentals.
* Experience supporting cloud systems or other services.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Communication and problem-solving skills across languages.
* Experience operating 24x7 high-availability, distributed software applications and performance tuning software applications.
* Proficient with Infrastructure as Code, (such as CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar).
* Experience operating services in AWS.
