Lead Estimator Position
We are seeking a skilled Lead Estimator to join our team at their Cork City centre office.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a leading Tier 1 contractor, working on landmark projects across Ireland.
You will play a key role in shaping project bids and helping to secure major construction contracts, working closely with a broad range of teams and stakeholders across the business.
The successful candidate will have experience in estimating or quantity surveying roles within the construction industry, with strong attention to detail and excellent numerical and analytical abilities.
A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline is required, along with up-to-date knowledge of construction methods, materials, and market rates.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with Microsoft Office tools and have experience with estimating software such as CostX, Cubit, Conquest, or Buildsoft.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Responsibilities include:
* Reviewing incoming tender documentation and briefing relevant team members accordingly
* Preparing and issuing requests for pricing from subcontractors and suppliers
* FOLLOWING UP WITH SUPPLY CHAIN PARTNERS TO ENSURE TIMELY RETURN OF QUOTATIONS
* Collaborating with colleagues to raise and respond to clarifications or queries during the tender process
* Identifying missing information or gaps in the tender and addressing them through clarification notes and estimator comments
* Assisting in developing risk registers and identifying potential value engineering options
* Analysing returned prices and tenders to assess competitiveness and completeness
* Preparing detailed cost reports for internal tender review, highlighting both cost risks and savings opportunities
* Compiling the full tender submission, including commercial documentation, bills of quantities, and completed forms
Requirements:
* A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline
* At least 6 years' experience working in estimating or quantity surveying roles within the construction industry
* Strong attention to detail, with excellent numerical and analytical abilities
* Comfortable working with Microsoft Office tools; experience with estimating software such as CostX, Cubit, Conquest, or Buildsoft is a distinct advantage
* Up-to-date knowledge of construction methods, materials, and market rates
* Proven ability to take responsibility for cost assessments and financial accuracy
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Confident working independently and as part of a collaborative team
* Ability to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines
