Overview:
We are seeking passionate and experienced Ecologists, Senior Ecologists, and Principal Ecologists to join growing teams in Ireland. Whether you're an emerging report writer or a seasoned professional, this role offers an exciting opportunity to work across a variety of ecological and environmental projects, from early-stage site assessments to complex EIAs. The position will support hybrid working and includes field and office-based responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Senior Ecologist (3–5 years)
* Lead small to medium-sized ecological projects and coordinate fieldwork and baseline assessments.
* Review and author high-quality ecological assessments, including EcIAs, NISs, and biodiversity chapters for EIARs.
* Mentor junior staff and support their professional development.
* Support project delivery in line with timelines, budgets, and QA protocols.
* Engage with clients, planning authorities, and statutory stakeholders.
Principal Ecologist (5–7+ years)
* Lead large and complex ecological projects from feasibility through to post-consent.
* Provide strategic ecological input to multi-disciplinary teams and contribute to business development.
* Oversee internal QA procedures and team standards.
* Guide professional development of team members and advise on external training opportunities.
* Manage client relationships, regulatory submissions, and project strategy.
Required Qualifications & Experience (All Levels):
* A Bachelor's degree (minimum) in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biology, or a related discipline (Postgraduate desirable).
* Demonstrated knowledge of Irish and EU ecological legislation, planning systems, and best practice.
* Strong technical report writing skills with attention to detail.
* Excellent communication and time management skills.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel).
* Eligibility or current membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEEM).
* Full clean Irish or EU driving license.
Desirable Skills:
* Experience with GIS and mapping software.
* Familiarity with ecological databases and planning portals.
* Field survey experience (e.g., bats, birds, habitats).
* Specialism in a protected species, habitat, or regulatory methodology.
* Project and team management experience.
* Stakeholder engagement skills.
