Job Title: Blood Safety Specialist
The role of the Blood Safety Specialist is to ensure that blood and blood components are handled, processed, and transfused in a safe and controlled manner. This involves implementing and maintaining effective quality assurance systems, conducting regular audits and assessments, and providing training and guidance to staff on best practices in blood safety.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement quality assurance programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and hospital policies
• Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement and develop corrective actions
• Provide training and guidance to staff on best practices in blood safety, including proper handling, processing, and transfusion techniques
• Collaborate with laboratory staff to ensure accurate and reliable testing and reporting of blood products
• Develop and maintain documentation and records related to blood safety activities
• Participate in hospital-wide quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of new policies and procedures
Required Skills and Qualifications:
• Registered General Nurse with The Nursing and Midwifery Bord of Ireland (NMBI)
• At least 3 year's post registration experience in an acute hospital setting - essential
• Evidence of ongoing CPD
• 2 years' experience is in the specialist area of an acute clinical setting in which blood / blood products are used
