The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Professional/ Clinical:
* Assist in the ongoing functioning and organisation of the Speech and Language Therapy service on LUH campus under the guidance of the Speech and Language Therapist Manager.
* Maintain high standards of clinical practice and knowledge within the SLT service.
* Conduct assessments, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of treatment/intervention programmes for service users according to professional standards.
* Develop expertise in communication and swallowing issues for designated service users, ensuring adherence to professional standards.
* Arrange and carry out assessments and treatment/interventions in appropriate settings, such as departments or wards, following local policies.
* Communicate assessment results and recommendations to service users and relevant parties.
* Document all care appropriately, complying with departmental and professional standards.
* Collaborate with service users, families, carers, and staff in goal setting and treatment planning.
* Provide clinical leadership by supporting and supervising staff, prioritising and allocating work.
* Participate actively in team work, collaborating with service users and team members as part of an integrated care package.
* Maintain standards of practice for yourself and designated staff.
* Foster close working relationships with colleagues and professionals to maximise service user potential.
* Engage in team and individual performance management.
* Attend relevant meetings, case conferences, and ward rounds.
* Contribute to developing and implementing procedures, policies, and guidelines in conjunction with the manager, adhering to standards and protocols.
* Maintain confidentiality, ethics, and legal standards.
* Seek assistance from the manager for cases beyond your scope, following best practices and governance principles.
* Operate within the scope of practice as set by CORU and the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists.
* Participate in activities promoting health and wellbeing.
* Carry out additional duties as assigned.
* Involve in instrumental swallow evaluations, such as Videofluoroscopy and FEES clinics, as appropriate.
* Prioritise and manage a patient caseload based on department needs.
* Manage workload, time, and resources effectively.
* Contribute to developing database, information, and audit systems, and shared care arrangements.
* Monitor and evaluate treatment effectiveness and appropriateness.
* Represent the service at meetings, committees, and projects.
* Engage in risk management by reporting incidents and near misses according to protocols.
Education and Training:
* Participate in mandatory and recommended training programs.
* Maintain and develop professional expertise through CPD, attending and presenting at events, courses, and conferences.
* Manage and contribute to the training of student therapists and others.
* Participate in supervision and performance reviews with the manager.
Health & Safety:
* Comply with policies, procedures, and legislation ensuring safe practice.
* Report hazards, incidents, and near misses appropriately.
* Work safely, respecting safety protocols like Lone Working policies.
* Be aware of risk management issues and take appropriate actions.
* Promote diversity and respect in the workplace.
* Participate in quality, risk, and safety initiatives, including HIQA standards.
* Support sustainability initiatives within the service.
Administrative:
* Coordinate and deliver services in designated areas.
* Contribute to policy development, performance monitoring, and planning.
* Prepare reports and statistics as required.
* Ensure adherence to best practices and standards.
* Review and evaluate the service, identifying improvements.
* Assist in service development, including policy implementation.
* Maintain confidentiality and accurate records.
* Participate in audits, reviews, and reporting.
* Deputise for the manager as needed.
* Participate in equipment management and technological developments.
