Job Description An Post operates a fleet of over 4,000 vehicles across more than 100 Delivery Units nationwide.
Reporting to the Fleet Network Manager, the Fleet Technical & Compliance Manager will be responsible for leading all aspects of An Post's Middle Mile fleet of more than 300 HGVs.
The role will focus on ensuring efficient utilisation of the fleet, applying industry best practice in cost control, compliance, and maintenance.
Working as part of a team dedicated to supporting Middle Mile operations, the Fleet Technical & Compliance Manager will manage a wide range of activities related to the HGV fleet and associated ancillary equipment.
The role involves close collaboration with colleagues in the Fleet and Operations departments, as well as with external suppliers, to identify and implement effective, efficient solutions that meet the evolving operational needs of the business.
Strong communication and coordination across stakeholders will be key to maintaining high standards of performance, compliance, and safety.
Responsibilities Safety & Compliance Prioritise safety and ensure full compliance with health, safety, National and EU legislation, and company standards.
Ensure drivers are compliant, fully trained on equipment, and confident in company policies and SOPs.
Liaise with regulatory bodies (RSA, Department of Transport) on all compliance matters.
Fleet Operations & Maintenance Oversee the HGV fleet and ancillary equipment, ensuring efficient utilisation, availability, and technical upkeep.
Manage vehicle alignment, replacement planning, and nationwide hire requirements.
Ensure scheduled maintenance, CVRT testing, and inspections are completed on time without disrupting operations.
Partner with suppliers to manage contracts, scheduled/unscheduled repairs, and service quality.
Technology & Reporting Manage fleet telemetry and tachograph systems, including analysis, reporting, and compliance follow-up.
Monitor vehicle and trailer telemetry, reporting on usage, variances, and utilisation.
Deliver daily and KPI reporting on fleet performance, driver scheduling, breakdowns, and operational variances.
Leadership & Teamwork Lead a geographically dispersed team and support administration staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Work closely with managers across the network to resolve issues and ensure smooth fleet operations nationwide.
Support the Networks Manager with routing, scheduling, and application of industry best practice.
Strategic & Financial Management Contribute to vehicle and trailer design specifications to meet future capacity needs.
Manage budgets, applying cost controls and efficiencies to achieve performance targets.
Engage with 3PL suppliers to ensure compliance, service delivery, and effective contract management.
Adapt to evolving business needs, contributing practical and innovative solutions.
Qualifications The successful candidate will bring demonstrated experience in applying data-driven insights to optimise efficiency and performance.
They will have at least seven years' experience managing a fleet of comparable size to An Post, along with a current Transport Manager Licence, Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC), and C and CE Licence.
Experience in managing budgets and the adaptability to work with new data technologies are essential.
Additionally, candidates should be self-motivated, capable of working independently and collaboratively, with the ability to deliver results under strict deadlines.
A solid understanding of developments in the HGV industry, the Road Traffic Acts, and Health & Safety Regulations, combined with strong commercial awareness, is required.
As a people leader, the candidate will demonstrate excellent leadership skills, a dedication to developing others, and strong interpersonal and leadership capabilities.
This role is based in Dublin Mails Centre and will require regular travel to sites nationally, a full clean driving license is essential.
Excellent leadership, strategic thinking and coaching ability are crucial for this role.
You will be a strongly motivated self-starter with excellent communication skills.

Salary The salary for this position is based on the CM1 pay range (median €79,269).
The usual starting pay and promotion rules apply for those being promoted: that is the higher of either
(i) 80% of the median (€63,415) or
(ii) the total of existing pay plus any productivity allowance, plus 5% of basic pay.
Appointment to this position will not incur an increase in salary for a candidate of equivalent grade.
The standard regulations will apply regarding starting pay on promotion.

Appointment: There will be a six-month probationary period and process in place for those appointed to the above position.
Should a successful applicant fail to achieve the standards expected at any stage during the probationary period, there will be early, effective intervention designed to enable them to reach and maintain acceptable standards of performance.
However, should they fail to reach and maintain these standards following this intervention; they will revert to their previous grading/position and to the salary point they would have reached if they had continued in that grade provided the record of service during your period in the position now advertised was satisfactory from the point of view of conduct.
