Overview
This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in the field of Residential Social Care Work. Odyssey Social Care is dedicated to providing 24/7 Care to Young People referred to us by TUSLA, by providing essential services for these young people, who are in the care of the State, while they are living in our Residential Care facilities. We work in partnership with TUSLA to ensure all Young People receive quality services. These include therapeutic residential care, access to education, access to psychological services, integration into local communities and preparation for aftercare. We acknowledge that each young person has their own individual needs. This role involves evening, weekend and residential shift working arrangements and will involve day-to-day running of the residential house with administrative duties and progress towards Placement Plan objectives.
What You Will Do / Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Work directly with young people under guidance until reaching appropriate level of training, proficiency and experience as deemed by Unit Manager.
* Ensure safe and effective service-delivery and be responsible for the day-to-day care of the young person (YP) in the house.
* Help young people who are engaged in school to complete homework, assignments and other school requirements.
* Assist with documenting the progress of the young person using Odyssey Social Care systems.
* Attend mandatory Company training and participate in training defined by individual training plan.
* Adhere to Odyssey Social Care policies and procedures; participate in regular Team Meetings.
* Adhere to Health and Safety Policy and risk assessment processes for young people and the environment.
* Contribute to team cohesion, create a positive atmosphere, and participate in team-building activities.
* Assist with administrative functions (recording & reporting systems, incident notifications, child protection notifications).
* Assist with house duties including cooking, cleaning, basic repairs, and maintaining routines within time scales.
* Follow whistleblowing policy and maintain confidentiality regarding children, staff, and company matters.
* Take responsibility for the wellbeing of the Company and perform any other duties as reasonably required.
* Probationary periods apply with targets to be met where identified.
Qualifications, Knowledge And Skills
Recognised QQI Level 5 or 6 in a health-related field and relevant experience. Qualificaitons considered relevant:

* QQI Level 5/6 Early Childhood Studies

* QQI Level 5/6 Addiction / Substance misuse
* QQI Level 5/6 Special Needs Assistant
* QQI Level 5/6 Youth and Community
* QQI Level 5/6 Healthcare
* QQI Level 5/6 Family Support
* A full, clean, manual driving license, valid in Ireland
* Ability to engage with young people; excellent communication skills; teamwork knowledge; understanding of National Standards for Children's Residential Centres (2018).

* Supervision & Support (Monthly supervision for 6 months, 4-8 weeks thereafter).
* Mentoring or peer buddy system may be introduced to support learning and development.
