Job Title:Social Care Staff Details of Service:St. Bernards Childrens Services is a voluntary therapeutic childrens residential & Fostering Support service which provides a unique and dedicated service to children and families. Reporting Relationship:The post holder will report to the Director of Services or other nominated manager. Location of Post:St. Bernards Childrens Services, Fethard, Co. Tipperary. Informal Enquiries:Director of Services Purpose of the Post To provide a stable and safe living environment for young people at the Unit and to work to a high standard of Social Care practice always. Principal Duties and Responsibilities The position of Social Care Staff encompasses the following: Specific duties To be attentive to the primary care needs of each young person. To contribute to the provision of a programme of stimulation activities for the children and young people. To accept any special responsibilities in relation to the children or young people and to undertake individual and group work with these young people and their families as identified with management and senior staff. To ensure that all relevant records within the unit are updated regularly. To ensure that the young peoples files are updated regularly. To provide written reports for reviews and case conferences, to participate in such reviews and case conferences and to implement agreed plans. To supervise small groups of children or young people on outings from the unit. To ensure the rights and responsibilities of children and young people are respected. To ensure that the children/young people are not subjected to any forms of abuse and in particular to ensure they are not subjected to bullying or the threat of bullying. To contribute to the promotion, creation and maintenance of a welcoming and caring environment and to a high standard of child care practice throughout the centre. To contribute to the development of the Centre, as a Centre which is focused exclusively on the provision of a therapeutic approach to meeting the needs of the young people. To provide a positive life experience for the young people in all aspects of their care and welfare. To assist the Manager and Senior Staff in providing high standards of care, quality of service and outcomes for young people. To advise the Manager of any developments, as they arise, in particular any accidents/incidents of concern. To comply with St Bernards policy on health, safety and be alert to any possible danger either from defects in premises or equipment and to bring these to the notice of senior staff. In the event of any immediate damage to take appropriate action to reduce the risk of physical injury to young people, staff or visitors. To ensure that all procedures regarding the care of young people and the use of resources are adhered to. Such other duties as may be assigned to the post by St. Bernards management. To ensure that unit policies are always adhered to. To assist colleagues in ensuring a team approach and response which has as its primary aim the welfare of the young people. To purposefully participate in staff meetings training and consultancy sessions and to use the opportunities provided through individual supervision sessions to develop and extend knowledge and skills and as far as personal circumstances allow to take advantage of training opportunities offered by St Bernards. To be prepared to discuss the work of the unit with other professionals and students as appropriate while respecting the need for confidentiality. To respect and understand the confidentiality required in this work, personal details about children/young people or staff members must not be divulged to members of the public. Eligibility Criteria Qualifications and/ or experience Fluent English Eligibility to work in Ireland And (iii) A qualification at degree level on the National Framework of Qualifications in Social Care. Qualifications considered as a related and a relevant field are: degree in Psychology Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy, Youth and Community Work, Social Work and Social Sciences. And (iv) Experience working in Social Care, 1 year with children. Health A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of an ability to render regular and efficient service to undertake all the tasks and duties outlined. Character Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character and must be successfully garda/police vetted. Person Specification Have strong communication and interpersonal skills Be enthusiastic Ability to work independently or as part of a team Campaign Specific Selection Process Ranking/Shortlisting / Interview A ranking and or shortlisting exercise may be carried out on the basis of information supplied in your CV. The criteria for ranking and or shortlisting are based on the requirements of the post as outlined above. Failure to include information regarding these requirements may result in you not being called forward to the next stage of the selection process. Working hours Your normal working hours will be 39 hrs per week. The organisation reserves the right to alter these working hours from time to time. You are expected to work a mixture of unsociable hours (days, nights (waking and sleepover), evenings, public holidays, and weekends). The shifts may vary in length due to the nature of cover the service requires, for example morning shift (8-3), evening shift (2-10); sleep-in shift (2-12/8-2.30) and Night Shift (10pm-10am). You are also expected to work during holiday periods such as Easter, Summer, and Christmas. Salary:The current salary for this post is between €36,945-€52,720 per annum or on a pro rata basis for part-time hour. Entry on the scale is dependent on experience and salaries are payable weekly in arrears. Annual leave:Annual leave entitlement is 8.46% of hours worked to a maximum per annum and proportionately less for less than 12 months service. Medical:You will be required to complete a Health Declaration Form and/or successfully pass a pre-employment medical as a pre-condition for employment. Garda Clearance/Police Clearance A successful Garda/Police Clearance is a pre-condition for all prospective employees undertaking relevant work or activities relating to children or vulnerable persons. Work References St. Bernards must obtain 3 satisfactory work references from previous employers as a pre-condition for employment. Please note more than 1 referee from the same employer will not be accepted.
