Offer description

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU APPLY:

* You have to be a EU/EEA citizen (or at least have 3 years of experience from working in an EU/EEA country)
* This job is in Norway, not in Ireland
* Only CVs written in English will be considered
* You must be a family medicine specialist

Are you a family medicine specialist (GP specialist) looking for a professional setting where you can spend more time with patients, work in a well-organized healthcare system and still have room for life outside work?

We are now recruiting family medicine specialists to permanent positions across Norway. Most roles are located outside the largest cities, offering well-organized primary care services, close collaboration with colleagues and working conditions that allow for a sustainable pace over time.

About the role

As a family medicine specialist in Norway, you will work in primary care with patients of all ages, managing a broad spectrum of general medical cases. The work includes consultations, diagnostics, treatment, follow-up, and coordination with other healthcare services.

You will be part of an interdisciplinary team that typically includes nurses, midwives, physiotherapists, psychologists and health secretaries. Norwegian primary care emphasizes continuity, quality, and patient-centered medicine – with realistic patient lists and predictable working hours.

Many positions are based in district municipalities, where general practitioners play a key role in the local healthcare system and are highly valued both professionally and socially.

What you can expect

* More time per patient and a strong focus on quality of care
* Predictable daytime work and good work-life balance
* Well-functioning primary care services with digital tools and support staff
* Close collaboration within multidisciplinary teams
* Opportunities for professional development and clinical responsibility
* Safe, family-friendly communities with access to nature and outdoor activities year-round

Salary and employment models

Expected annual income ranges from €100,000 – €175,000, depending on:

* Employment model (fixed salary or self-employed GP)
* Municipality, patient list size, and workload
* Experience and local agreements

Both permanent employment and self-employed GP models are available.

Requirements

* EU/EEA-recognized specialist certification in family medicine / general practice
* Experience working broadly across age groups
* Good communication skills and ability to work independently and in teams
* Good English proficiency and motivation to learn Norwegian (language training provided)
* Interest in long-term work in Norwegian primary care, particularly in district settings

Why Norway?

Norway offers a healthcare system with strong professional standards, clear structures and a genuine focus on sustainable working conditions for doctors. Outside of work, you will find space, nature, and time – whether that means outdoor activities, family life, or simply fewer daily stressors.

* Support with Norwegian medical authorization and formal approvals
* Assistance with relocation, housing, and practical matters for you and your family
