LSC has a great contract opportunity for a Purchasing Specialist in Material Operations at a Cork-based Biopharmaceutical company. The site manufactures low-volume bulk API for Phase III clinical trials, initial product launch, and long-term market support. The team on-site grows, purifies, formulates, and bulk-fills mammalian cell culture-derived APIs for medicines intended for human use.

Role: Purchasing Specialist, Material Operations

The primary role of the Materials Planner/Buyer is to coordinate and execute activities related to planning and purchasing components, converting Master Schedule and detailed schedule outputs (MRP) into material requirements to ensure availability of the right quantities when needed. This role is vital in optimizing material flow (order to release), considering warehouse capacities and inventory targets to prevent disruptions, excess storage costs, and material waste. It involves building effective internal and external relationships, including with suppliers and cross-functional teams.
Site activities include Drug Substance, Drug Product, and Finished Good Packaging.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop & execute the Materials Requirement Plan (MRP) by ensuring efficient procurement & inventory practices, balancing quality, service, reliability, and cost to meet patient/customer needs while maintaining compliance.
* Maintain accurate master data of materials in Oracle to ensure correct signals are received in a timely manner.
* Communicate delivery schedules to suppliers to meet requirements.
* Maintain inventories within targets, minimizing excess, obsolete, and expired materials.
* Use initiative to identify, communicate, and resolve issues promptly.
* Participate in site meetings to discuss potential impacts on production schedules, supplier reliability, and service issues; escalate issues as needed.
* Coordinate with Quality and Warehouse teams regarding rejected/defective materials for prompt resolution.
* Support scenario planning (RCCP) with material feasibility analysis.
* Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to resolve plan constraints and interfaces.
* Assist in operational readiness activities.
* Manage supplier and material selection processes with TGP, including supplier agreements.
* Ensure new materials are qualified and set up correctly in Oracle for planning and purchasing.
* Partner with TGP to improve supplier performance, including quality and delivery.
* Track and report supplier service performance.
* Assess deviations to the plan with suppliers, communicating impacts to stakeholders.
* Coordinate with warehouse to manage inventory levels considering space constraints.
* Lead cross-functional teams to solve problems and improve processes.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives in KPI areas such as customer service, inventory, and cost.
* Ensure compliance activities like Change Control, Deviations, Events, & CAPA are completed.

Education & Experience
* Honours Degree (NFQ level 8) in Supply Chain Management or related Business discipline is essential.
* Supply Chain Certification (e.g., APICS) preferred.
* Project Management or Lean Certification desirable.
Experience
* At least 3 years of relevant Supply Chain Management experience required.
* Experience in Planning/Purchasing in a pharmaceutical environment is desirable.
* Experience with Oracle ERP system beneficial; competency in ERP systems essential.
* Knowledge of Power BI or similar data analytics tools is desirable.
