Job Title: Paediatric Occupational Therapy Specialist

In a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children and families in your community, we invite applications for a Senior Paediatric Occupational Therapist position. This is a chance to join a service that values collaboration, innovation, and professional growth.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive occupational therapy assessments and interventions for children aged 9 years and older with a range of developmental, sensory, physical, and emotional needs. The role involves formulating individualised intervention plans that support participation and independence in daily activities such as self-care, school-related tasks, and play. Direct and indirect interventions will be delivered using a combination of clinic-based sessions, school visits, home visits, and group programmes. The focus will be on developing functional skills, sensory processing, fine and gross motor abilities, handwriting, emotional regulation, and executive functioning. The postholder will work collaboratively as part of a Primary Care multidisciplinary team, including Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Psychologists, and Public Health Nurses. Regular liaison with families, teachers, SNAs, and other community professionals will ensure a holistic and integrated approach to each child's care. Education, training, and strategies will be provided to parents, teachers, and carers to support carryover of therapy goals in natural environments. Clinical supervision, mentoring, and guidance will be provided to Staff Grade OTs, students, and therapy assistants. A lead role will be taken in service planning and development initiatives aimed at improving access, quality, and outcomes for paediatric clients. Participation in or leading service audits, quality improvement projects, and clinical research activities will also be expected. The postholder will contribute to the design and implementation of group therapy programmes and innovative service delivery models. Accurate and timely clinical records will be maintained in line with HSE, CORU, and local policies. Appropriate risk assessments and safeguarding procedures will be ensured for each client. Professional standards of practice, health and safety regulations, and data protection policies will be adhered to. Regular clinical supervision and reflective practice will support professional development.
