Cook Position Overview
We are looking for skilled and passionate cooks to join our culinary team. As a cook in our partnered facilities, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the nutritional needs of residents are met with delicious and wholesome meals. You will work collaboratively with the facility's dietary team to plan menus, prepare meals, and maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.
Responsibilities
* Plan, prepare, and cook nutritious meals in accordance with dietary requirements and menu plans, ensuring all standards are met.
* Ensure meals are served at the appropriate temperature and in a timely manner.
* Assist with the serving of meals to residents, respecting their food preferences.
* Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper storage and handling of food.
* Collaborate with dietary staff to develop menus that meet the nutritional needs and preferences of residents.
* Assist the Food and Nutrition Manager in controlling food costs, waste, and ordering.
* Monitor food inventory and communicate with the appropriate channels to coordinate ordering of supplies.
* Ensure all Public Health and Ministry of Long-Term Care requirements are met.
* Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including equipment and utensils.
* Assist with special events and catering as required.
Requirements
* Successful completion and/or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting the requirements of the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act is required.
* Chef/Cook Certification from a recognized community college, preferably Red Seal, is preferred.
* A valid Food Handler's Certificate must be maintained.
* Institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality cooking experience is accepted, although experience in a Long-Term Care setting or with seniors is preferred.
* A Vulnerable Sector Check within 6 months is required.
* Proof of COVID-19 vaccination in accordance with the Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care's Long-term care home COVID-19 immunization policy is required.
Skills
* A sincere interest in people, particularly the elderly, and a genuine sensitivity to their needs are essential.
* The ability to handle the physical aspects of the position, including bending, standing, lifting, withstanding various temperature ranges, and having hands in water while following established safety practices and procedures, is necessary.
* Effective time management and multi-tasking skills are required to complete routines within assigned schedules.
* Flexibility and adaptability within a team environment are essential.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written in English) are required.
