Overall Purpose of Job

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables: Medical Registrar

* To act under the supervision of the Medical Consultants in the provision of a Medicine service and to support the Consultants in their duties.
* To complete the admission process for patients attending the emergency department, including comprehensive documentation of hospital admission and care plan.
* To attend daily ward rounds with the medical team.
* To take handover of patients from the previous shift Registrar, ensuring continuity of care, making immediate decisions, and writing orders.
* To review patients regularly according to the care plan and inform the consultant of any issues.
* To document review findings in clinical notes promptly and legibly.
* To order investigations such as radiology, laboratory tests, and function tests as required by the patient’s care plan, as directed by the Consultant.
* To respond to adverse occurrences like injuries, falls, or sudden illnesses affecting patients, visitors, or staff.
* To contribute to quality improvement, risk management, clinical audits, and policy development to ensure high standards of the Internal Medicine Service.
* To participate in hospital projects as requested by your team lead.
* To behave professionally, optimize patient care, and uphold the reputation of Beacon Hospital, adhering to hospital policies and procedures including JCI, Code Blue, infection control, work hours, and overtime.
* To undertake additional duties as required, including assisting colleagues and acting as a resource for junior staff.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* MRCP or equivalent (desirable)
* Current Full Irish Medical Council Registration


Experience

* 3 years postgraduate experience

* High-level interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
* Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and use initiative
* Proven team working ability
* Adaptability to change and willingness to undertake further training
* Empathy and respect for service users
* Clinical knowledge and evidence-based practice
* Current ACLS certification
* Effective communication skills
