About The RoleThe Commissioning Engineer will lead the commissioning, testing, optimisation and handover of advanced process water treatment systems within hyperscale and enterprise data centre environments. This role ensures that all mechanical, electrical, control and process-treatment systems operate safely, efficiently and in accordance with project specifications, industry standards and client requirements. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise in water treatment processes, instrumentation and control systems and thrives in fast-paced, high-reliability sectors such as mission-critical data centre operations.Key ResponsibilitiesCommissioning & TestingPlan, execute, and document commissioning activities for water treatment systems (e.g., filtration, softening, RO, UF, chemical dosing, polishing).Conduct functional testing, FAT/SAT support, equipment start-up, performance testing, and process optimisation.Verify operation of pumps, valves, skids, chemical handling systems, controls and treatment stages.Ensure all systems comply with project specifications, HSE requirements and relevant standards.Data Centre Systems IntegrationCoordinate commissioning activities with mechanical, electrical, and BMS/SCADA teams within data centre environments.Validate water quality and system performance to meet cooling, humidification and process-water requirements.Troubleshoot system interactions related to cooling towers, adiabatic systems, closed-loop circuits, and humidity control.Technical Documentation & ReportingDevelop commissioning plans, method statements, risk assessments and testing protocols.Produce detailed commissioning reports, performance summaries and O&M documentation.Maintain accurate logs of test results, deviations, punch-list items and rectification plans.Client & Stakeholder CoordinationWork closely with project managers, design engineers, contractors and client FM/operations teams.Participate in technical meetings, design reviews and handover discussions.Provide technical support and training to client operations teams during transition to steady-state operations.Quality, Safety & ComplianceEnsure all commissioning activities follow safety legislation, environmental guidelines and internal quality systems.Identify design or installation issues and propose/implement corrective actions.Champion safe work practices within high-risk, mission-critical environments.Required Skills & ExperienceTechnical Expertise: Strong knowledge of water treatment technologies (e.g., RO, UF, ion exchange, chemical dosing, disinfection, filtration) and instrumentation, control systems, PLCs, and BMS/SCADA interfaces.Experience: Previous commissioning or process engineering experience in water treatment, industrial utilities, or data centre sectors; demonstrated ability to troubleshoot mechanical, process and control system issues.Qualifications: Degree/HND in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience). Relevant certifications (e.g., IOSH/NEBOSH, water treatment qualifications) beneficial.Behavioural SkillsStrong problem-solving ability and technical curiosity.Excellent communication and documentation skills.Flexible, self-driven and capable of working independently or within multi-disciplinary teams.Desirable Experience (Optional)Commissioning in hyperscale cloud provider facilities (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google).Experience with high-purity or ultrapure water systems.Familiarity with data centre cooling systems and redundancy models (N, N+1, 2N).Knowledge of environmental compliance related to water discharge and chemical handling.Working ConditionsSite-based or hybrid role depending on project phase.May require travel to national or international project sites.Work in construction, live data centre, and plant-room environments.Compensation PackageCompetitive salary and benefits packageOpportunities for professional development and career growthCPD accredited employerA collaborative and supportive work environmentLaptop or desktop and work mobile phone providedFlexible working options, dependent on location and role requirementsSee company website for more information on the benefits of working in EPS GroupEqual opportunity and inclusion statements are supported as part of our recruitment process.
