Grants & Project Accountant

BnM currently has an opening for a Grants & Project Accountant who will play a critical role in tracking and reporting on the financial performance of renewable energy and green transition grant funded projects. The role will ensure that projects are accurately costed, aligned with EU grant requirements, and support Project Managers and Finance in delivering on time and on budget. Additionally, the role involves supporting the Finance Operations Manager in driving system and process improvements.
The main duties and responsibilities of the role will include the following:
* Oversee daily general ledger operations to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies. Manage the preparation and review of monthly management accounts and annual budgets, ensuring they align with organisational goals and financial strategies. Support the team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, month-end close processes, and compliance with all accounting policies and procedures. Ensure the integrity of financial data, providing support for audit processes as required.
* Responsible for managing all aspects of grant administration, including tracking grants, preparing budgets, and ensuring compliance with financial and grant specific guidelines. This includes monitoring grant spending, maintaining accurate records, and preparing timely grant claims for submission. This will involve coordination with internal teams to gather necessary documentation, reconcile grant-related accounts, and provide regular financial reports to management. You will also play a role in supporting grant audits, handling finance queries from funders etc.
* The Grants & Project Accountant will lead the preparation, validation, and submission of grant claims to funding bodies in accordance with contract terms and deadlines. Ensure all expenditure claimed is eligible, properly documented, and supported by audit-ready records. Maintain audit trails for grant-funded projects and liaise with auditors and grant administrators during reviews or inspections. Monitor grant income recognition and ensure correct treatment in line with accounting standards and funding agreements.
* Work with the Finance Operations Manager and GL Project Manager to drive continuous improvement in project accounting and grant claims processes. Support the development and refinement of reporting tools, templates, and systems for better efficiency and accuracy. Ensure financial systems are used effectively to support project tracking and compliance.
* Provide monthly project financial reports to project managers and relevant stakeholders. Prepare and review project-specific balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, and prepayments. Produce financial schedules and assist in preparation of variance analysis, cash flow projections, and funding utilisation reports. Support the capitalisation of project costs.

* Proactively participate in the Performance Management process to ensure delivery of own, and the wider team’s, objectives.
The Person
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualification, skills, knowledge and attributes:
* Professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) is essential.
* Minimum of 3 years’ experience in project accounting, grant finance, or a related finance role, preferably within the renewable energy sector.
* Strong knowledge of project-based accounting principles and grant compliance requirements.
* Proficiency with ERP systems, particularly Oracle and Oracle BI, along with Power BI for data analysis and reporting.
* Advanced Excel skills, with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
* Experience with time-tracking and resource allocation systems is highly desirable.
* Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including non-finance stakeholders.
* Excellent communication skills to translate financial data into actionable insights.
* Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to managing deadlines and compliance.
