**Hybrid role 2 days office** Cork Or Dublin ** Permanent Role**

The Role:

Reporting to the Network Forecasting Manager the Senior Future Network Engineer will manage a team of skilled planning and forecasting engineers in providing future demand modelling scenarios to inform long term energy scenarios. Stakeholder relationships is a key aspect of this role, both developing, influencing and maintaining relationships at regulatory, government and at EU level. Key outputs include long term gas projection documents, long term EU scenarios. The successful applicant will be responsible for creating and maintaining forecasting models and working with regulation and strategy as part of developing strategic models for energy scenarios.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Leading the 2050 demand forecasting function within Gas Networks Ireland.
* Lead and champion Gas Networks Ireland's new adaptive long-term gas network development documents – the Core Flexibility Report and Supplemental Flexibility Report. Lead engagement with key external and internal stakeholders in relation to public consultation, presentations on adaptive planning scenarios, industry forums and alignment with GNI Strategy in terms of the long term outlook for the gas network
* Lead the annual consultation and meetings with shippers, producers, storage operators, power station developers and neighbouring Transmission System Operators (TSOs) and Distribution System Operators (DSOs) for electricity, gas and heat networks.
* Developing and maintaining long term demand forecasting models, taking into account relevant factors: e.g. integrated energy system principles, historical demand, new connections, weather and fuel price data, evolution of the hydrogen and biomethane markets and the organisation of regular meetings with key external stakeholders.
* Forecasting the future sources of supply to meet the projected demand by Entry Point, e.g. Moffat, Corrib green hydrogen and biomethane, storage and other future entry points.
* Leading and developing multiple demand and supply scenarios to meet commercial and business requirements.
* Manage the implementation of any software technologies related to demand forecasting, and support rollout of new software to other areas of the business where required .
* Liaise with European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) and inform via questionnaire's Irelands position on gas demand growth to inform the wider EU Ten Year Network Development Plan for gas, 2050 modelling scenarios (this may require attendance in Brussels from time to time).
* Develop and manage KPI's for demand forecasting, manage independent validation of forecasting process through external service providers.
* Documenting and updating the detailed procedures of the Future Networks Function.
* Providing ongoing status and raising risks and issues as appropriate to the Network Forecasting Manager.
* Performing any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

* Proven, Business, Economics or Engineering qualification with a minimum of 7 years' experience.
* Experience with gas/energy demand forecasting and scenario planning is required. Experience in use of Energy Modelling software (e.g. Plexos) to model gas and electricity market behaviour is considered to be an advantage.
* Experienced in net zero energy policies, strategy's, market regimes and incentives.
* Possess excellent analytical skills (including a high degree of proficiency in Microsoft Excel), ability to identify and analyse problems, identify potential improvements, propose and implement solutions and translate into presentations.
* Technical ability to translate outputs from forecasting models and dissemination of results, involving presenting data to Senior Management, the Commission for the Regulation of Utilities (CRU), Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment (DCEE) alongside other key industry stakeholders.
* Minimum of 7 years' experience leading multi discipline teams or equivalent management experience, familiarisation with demand forecasting and scenario planning advantageous.
* You have demonstrated strong understanding of developing and maintaining key stakeholder relationships within industry, influencing direction to inform outcomes to achieve business goals and create opportunities e.g. energy regulators etc.
* Enthusiastic self-starter with a proactive approach to gaining industry insight for future demand scenarios.
* You will have a demonstrated ability of managing teams and building effective organisational working relationships to achieve shared goals and objectives.
* You will have strong people management and team skills which will allow you to get the best out of teams and individuals.
* You will be a compelling communicator with the ability to influence and motivate others.
* You will be a strong advocate for change and constantly seeking out opportunities to create efficiencies and improvements.
* You will have a track record of achievement of key results and will have demonstrated ability to accelerate these results through others.
* You will have strong decision making capabilities which is based on strong technical or functional understanding.
