(Opening Early 2026 – Haven Wood Retirement Home & Village, Ballygunner, Waterford)
EthosCare is delighted to announce the opening of our newest state‑of‑the‑art nursing home in Ballygunner, Waterford in early 2026. We are now recruiting a dedicated and experienced Person in Charge (PIC) to lead our care team and ensure the highest standards of resident care from the very beginning of our journey.
The successful candidate will ensure a best practice approach to all aspects of clinical leadership ensuring that the Nursing Home is well managed and the needs of the residents are provided for.
A proven track record in building and maintaining relationships and strong communication skills at all levels, the ability to foster excellent teamwork, have demonstrated leadership characteristics and have and good knowledge of HIQA standards.
About the Role
As the Person in Charge, you will oversee the full operational, clinical, and regulatory management of the nursing home, ensuring compliance with HIQA, the Health Act 2007, and Ethos' commitment to excellence in person‑centred care. You will provide strong leadership, promote a positive team culture, and maintain a caring environment that supports the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of each resident.
Key Responsibilities
Provide overall leadership and governance of the nursing home, ensuring residents experience the highest standards of care.
Always represent the nursing home as the senior manager and act in the best interest of the nursing home and its residents and the wider Ethos Care group.
Manage the registration of the nursing home and ensure compliance with all HIQA and statutory requirements.
Build and sustain a culture where residents are treated with dignity, respect, and compassion, and where staff feel supported, empowered, and valued.
Lead a dedicated multi-disciplinary team, ensuring effective workforce planning, supervision, and ongoing staff development.
Oversee all aspects of operational management, including clinical governance, occupancy levels, budgets, health & safety, and regulatory reporting.
Ensure seamless communication and collaboration with residents, families, staff, and external stakeholders.
Drive continuous improvement and innovation in care delivery across both the nursing home and retirement village.
Professional Registration
Must be a Registered Nurse with active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
Qualifications & Experience
Third-level nursing degree and active NMBI registration with PIN.
Minimum of 6 years' post-registration experience with at least 3 years in care of the older person.
At least 3 years in a nursing management role, preferably within a nursing home or similar long-term care setting.
A postgraduate qualification in Nursing Management, Gerontology, Healthcare Leadership, or Healthcare Management (or willingness to undertake).
Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
Full clean Irish driver's licence and access to personal transport.
Skills required
Excellent knowledge of HIQA standards
Evidence of continuous professional development.
Excellent interpersonal skills and proven written and verbal communication abilities.
Possesses the clinical, administrative and leadership capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
