Job Summary
An experienced and visionary person to serve as the first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) (Designate) of the new Artificial Intelligence Office of Ireland, reporting to an independent Board, appointed by the Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment. The CEO (Designate) will lead the establishment of the AI Office, build a senior leadership team, develop a strategic vision, and put in place appropriate resourcing, protocols, and processes to deliver on the objectives of the AI Office. The CEO (Designate) and the AI Office of Ireland will work alongside key stakeholders to deliver on the effective implementation of the EU AI Act in Ireland.
Main Duties of the job
The CEO (Designate) will provide strategic leadership, regulatory oversight, and cross-sectoral coordination to ensure the ethical, transparent, and innovative use of AI in Ireland. This role is pivotal in positioning Ireland as a European and global leader in trustworthy AI, and as a location of choice for development of trustworthy AI and a hub for responsible AI innovation.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
Demonstrated an extensive track record of attainment and achievement at senior leadership level in large, complex public and/ or private sector organisations.
Demonstrated capacity to establish and lead new entities.
Substantial relevant experience in corporate governance in the public or private sector.
Proven track record as a team player and in leading multi-disciplinary teams and developing and executing strategies.
Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to build effective relationships, internally and externally at a senior level with key government bodies and other stakeholders.
Deep understanding of the opportunities and challenges of AI systems and technologies, their societal implications, and multi-lateral developments in AI governance.
Experience with EU law and institutions, with a particular understanding of the EU AI Act and its implementation.
Information About The Organisation
The Irish Government is establishing an Artificial Intelligence Office of Ireland, to act as the central coordinating authority for implementation/oversight of the EU AI Act governance in Ireland and to provide a focal point for the promotion and adoption of AI in Ireland. The AI Office will oversee and promote a regulatory framework that balances encouraging innovation while mitigating potential risks for individuals and society and championing the strategic and ethical adoption and development of AI in Ireland. The AI office will coordinate the enforcement of the EU AI Act by the Market Surveillance Authorities (MSAs) and the Notifying Authorities (NAs) who have been designated under the AI Act and will provide AI expertise, guidance and policy advice to Government and the public.
