Senior Medical Scientist – All Disciplines & Senior Biochemist
To participate as a Senior Medical Scientist, in providing a high quality and efficient laboratory service to Consultants, Doctors and their patients within the hospital and the community. The post holder will deputise for the Chief Medical Scientist as required.

* Connolly Hospital
* Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda
Responsibilities:
Professional/Clinical
* Maintain awareness of the primacy of the patient in all hospital activities.
* Participate in the improvement and development of laboratory services.
* Demonstrate behaviour aligned with the hospital's mission and values.
* Handle all patient and hospital information confidentially.
* Ensure the quality of work and pursue development goals.
* Manage laboratory equipment issues.
* Participate in daily technical activities, including Point-of-Care-Testing support.
* Coordinate quality resolution with the Quality Manager and Chief Medical Scientist.
* Maintain ISO 15189 Quality Management System compliance.
* Prepare and review laboratory procedures and reports of non-conformances.
* Participate in audits and accreditation processes.
* Attend laboratory meetings and ensure equipment malfunctions are addressed.
* Manage consumables and reagents stocks.
* Contribute to evaluation and implementation of new equipment and methods.
* Engage in professional development and research activities.
* Ensure compliance with guidelines and participate in quality control.
* Follow record-keeping policies.
* Train and develop staff and support ongoing professional growth.
* Foster effective communication within the laboratory and hospital sectors.
* Participate in research, development, and on-call duties.
* Uphold professional behaviour, patient confidentiality, and safety standards.
Staff Management
* Train, supervise, and develop staff and trainees.
* Deputise for senior staff when needed.
* Promote a collaborative and professional team environment.
* Participate in staff reviews and ensure SOPs and safety policies are understood and followed.
Health & Safety
* Implement safety policies and adhere to legislation and standards.
* Work safely and report incidents or risks.
* Support safety and sustainability initiatives.
Education & Training
* Participate in mandatory training and CPD.
* Maintain personal training records.
* Support education and training within the laboratory.
Administrative
* Contribute to service improvement and policy implementation.
* Manage laboratory materials and provide management reports.
Qualifications & Experience
* Registered or eligible for registration with CORU's Medical Scientists Register.
* Possess at least a Level 9 postgraduate qualification in a relevant field, validated by the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine, such as MSc in Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biomedical Science, Molecular Pathology, or Medical Science.
