Overview of Post: The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) sets the criteria for registration as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner as set out in Advanced Practice (Nursing) Standards and Requirements (NMBI, 2017). Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioners provide expert nursing skills and interventions which transcend traditional nursing roles and responsibilities. RANPs have significant experience, knowledge, and training to competently deliver care as an adjunct to medical colleagues, delivering safe, timely, evidence-based nurse-led care to patients at an advanced nursing level. This involves undertaking and documenting a complete episode of patient care (assess, diagnose, plan, treat and discharge patients) within collaboratively agreed protocols and scope of practice, with advanced clinical and theoretical knowledge. Critical thinking, clinical leadership, and decision-making are core competencies of this role. The role provides clinical leadership and professional scholarship to develop nursing practice and health policy at local, regional and national levels; it contributes to nursing research to shape and advance practice, education and health care policy.

The Epilepsy focus describes a chronic neurological condition characterized by seizures. The program aims to improve access to expert care and information, improve quality of care across the healthcare spectrum, and shift care where possible from hospital-based to community settings while ensuring value-conscious care.
