Clinical Nurse Specialist – Medical Oncology
Location: Waterford
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary Scale: €61,249 – €76,158 per annum (based on a 37.5-hour week)
Key Responsibilities
Lead and support the day-to-day coordination of care within the Oncology Day Unit
Deliver specialist clinical expertise in Medical Oncology, supporting complex patient pathways
Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to nursing staff
Ensure safe, effective allocation of resources and appropriate skill mix
Promote evidence-based practice and continuous quality improvement
Collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary team to optimise patient outcomes
Support service development, audit, and KPI achievement
Maintain clear communication with senior nursing and management teams
Participate in and lead quality improvement and change initiatives
Qualifications
Registered with NMBI (General Division) or eligible
Postgraduate qualification in Oncology (or equivalent)
Minimum 4 years’ oncology experience
Proven experience in a leadership/clinical specialist capacity
Competent in IV/oral chemotherapy administration
Experience with CVAD care, cannulation, and venepuncture
Strong organisational, leadership, and communication skills
IT proficiency (Microsoft Office) and awareness of clinical governance
Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification (or willingness to undertake)
Experience in service development, audit, or change management
Strong clinical knowledge and professional leadership
Commitment to evidence-based practice and patient-centred care
Excellent organisational and time-management skills
Ability to manage competing priorities effectively
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrates adaptability, initiative, and a collaborative approach
Ability to lead and influence within a multidisciplinary environment
