Catalyx is seeking a Lab Automation Engineer to join our team and work on our customer site in Cork.

The Role:
The Lab Automation Engineer will support the delivery of automation and digitalisation initiatives within a GMP Analytical Development laboratory environment. The successful candidate will work closely with laboratory users, IT, Quality, CSV, AIQ, EHS, and external vendors to implement compliant automation solutions that improve laboratory efficiency, data integrity, and operational performance.
This position will play a key role in supporting the site’s automation roadmap through the deployment and integration of laboratory automation hardware and software, while ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards within a highly regulated pharmaceutical environment.
Responsibilities:
Act as the technical point of contact for laboratory automation initiatives within the Analytical Development environment.
Partner with laboratory users and site stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into automation system design and implementation plans.
Support the delivery and integration of automation hardware and software solutions across laboratory workflows.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including IT, Quality, CSV, AIQ, EHS, technical SMEs, and vendors to ensure successful project execution.
Manage and support change controls associated with automation systems, including non‑GMP change controls where required.
Contribute to automation roadmap planning and continuous improvement initiatives across the laboratory environment.
Support equipment qualification, validation activities, and associated documentation within regulated GxP environments.
Ensure compliance with cGMP, Annex 11, 21 CFR Part 11, and data integrity requirements.
Promote a strong safety culture and ensure automation systems are designed and operated safely.
Participate in vendor meetings, technical reviews, and project updates with internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automation, Computer Science, Biotechnology, or a related discipline.
3+ years’ experience within lab automation, IT systems, CSV, or GxP regulated environments.
Experience supporting automation projects within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or laboratory environments.
Strong understanding of laboratory automation technologies including robotics and liquid handling systems.
Experience with programming tools such as Python, R, or LabVIEW for automation or data analysis activities.
Knowledge of data integrity principles, analytical software systems, and regulated data management practices.
Experience supporting equipment qualification, validation, and change control activities.
Strong understanding of FDA/EMA regulations, cGMP, Annex 11, and 21 CFR Part 11 requirements.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to work across multiple functions.
Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify process improvement and technology solutions.
Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced and highly regulated environment.
Previous experience working with vendors, OEMs, and external technical partners is desirable.
Relevant certifications in project management, automation, robotics, or CSV are advantageous.
