Older Persons Rehabilitation

Based at Blarney Rehabilitation Unit and any buildings within the Mercy University Hospital (MUH) Complex.
Blarney Rehabilitation Unit Service
Blarney Rehabilitation Unit is a newly developed post-acute care rehabilitation unit. It is made up of 50 beds located off site from the MUH. It remains under the governance of the MUH. The Rehabilitation Services program delivers specialist post-acute care, focusing on patient-centered reablement to help patients achieve optimal functionality and independence following illness or injury. This service emphasizes seamless transitions of care between hospital and home, integrating multidisciplinary expertise to support patient recovery.
We are seeking to attract an experienced Senior Psychologist to this new post. The successful candidate will join the Department of Clinical Health Psychology, a dynamic and research active department within the Mercy University Hospital.
Responsibilities - The post holder will be responsible for;
* The development and delivery of a specialist Psychological Rehabilitation Service to older persons attending Blarney Rehabilitation Unit.
* Provide an empirically supported professional psychology service to patients in line with best practice, professional conduct, and clinical governance.
* Work flexibly within the MDT team to manage an appropriate caseload of patients including patients presenting with significant need, complex presentations, and potential high levels of psychological distress.
* Attend MDT meetings, ward rounds and other meetings as appropriate, and provide psychological consultation regarding the formulation of patients' needs.
* Participate in the evaluation of clinical / professional activity for the purpose of service monitoring, evaluation and improvement.
* Conduct and promote service related research as appropriate.
* Represent a professional viewpoint in relation to nationally accepted good practice, promoting a high level of ethical standards and professional conduct.
* Attend mandatory training programmes.
* Engage in regular clinical professional supervision with the Psychology Manager.
* Provide professional and clinical supervision of trainee psychologists as agreed with the Psychology Manager.
* Provide supervision to the work of non-psychologists in delivery of psychological interventions as appropriate.
* Be familiar with and comply with Health and Safety Regulations and Protocols, relevant safety statement, professional guidelines and Core Standards of Practice.
Eligibility Criteria:
Eligibility is split into the following categories:
* Category A. Employed pre October 2002
* Category B. Employed between October 2002 to 31st January 2021
* Category C. Employed 31st January 2021 to the 30th September 2024.
* Category A/2024 Qualified pre and employed post
* Category B/2024 Qualified post
And
* Overseas qualifications must be validated by the PSI on behalf of the Department of Health at the time of application.
Desirable:
* Experience of working of working with neuropsychological approaches.
* Eligibility for full membership of Division of Neuropsychology, Psychological Society of Ireland
