Job Brief

Candidate Requirements
* Applicants should have excellent communication skills, good leadership skills, and ability to work on their own initiative
* Experience of working with people with learning disabilities is desirable
* Excellent interpersonal skills and flexibility together with high levels of computer literacy are required
* Ability to manage in a changing and adaptable environment
Qualifications & Requirements
Relevant OT qualifications essential & must be registered with CORU or in the process of same.

The successful candidate will report to the Clinical Lead, Western Care Association
Clinical supervision will be provided by a Senior Occupational Therapist within Western Care Association
Location of Post
The Basic Grade Occupational Therapist will be based in Head Office, Western Care Association, John Moore Road, Castlebar with a county wide brief.
Purpose of the job
The Basic Grade Occupational Therapist is a key appointment in the delivery of a /effective services for adults with complex needs (an intellectual disability/autism/complex physical difficulties.) He/she will contribute to providing a quality service and support staff to enable adults develop and live their lives to a full potential.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
The Basic Grade Occupational Therapist will work as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team to provide Occupational Therapy Services to meet the needs of the adults we support with complex needs.
The Occupational Therapist will:
Be responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and review of treatment / intervention programmes for the people we support according to Western Care Association standards.
Manage own caseload in accordance with the needs of the post.
Collaborate with the people we support, family, carers and other staff in treatment / intervention planning.
Work in partnership with the interdisciplinary teams, to address the holistic needs of the people we support.
Plan discharge or transition of the people we support between services as appropriate.
Document all assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, reports and discharge summaries in accordance with Western Care Associations Policies, Procedures and professional standards.
Communicate verbally and / or in writing results of assessments, treatment / intervention programmes and recommendations to the team and relevant others in accordance with service policy.
As a mandated person under the Children First Act 2015, you will have a legal obligation to report child protection concerns to the Designated Liaison Person and in line with adult safeguarding to report adult safeguarding concerns to the Designated Officers within Western Care Association.
Education and Training
The Occupational Therapist will:
* Participate in mandatory training programmes
* Participate in continuing professional development including in-service training, attending and presenting at conferences / courses relevant to practice
* Engage in support / supervision with the Clinical Lead and participate in performance review
* Participate in the practice education of student therapists. Actively participate in teaching / training / supervision of other Occupational Therapy and non-Occupational Therapy staff / students and attend practice educator courses as appropriate
* The Occupational Therapist must be registered with CORU or in the process of same.
Working Relationships and Communication:
* Understand and operate all relevant local and organisational procedure, directives and general information made available through the line manager.
* Develop and contribute to good working relationships in the Organisation and with all other relevant personnel.
* Report to and appraise line manager or designate of all work-related issues and difficulties.
* Follow the Association's Grievance and Disciplinary Procedure, available in the Association's Staff Handbook.
* Maintain strict confidentiality relating to matters regarding personnel and services.
* Attend and actively participate in staff meetings as required.
* Actively participate in supervisory support as per Organisation Procedure.
General:
* Promote a positive image and name of the Association in the wider community.
* Be accountable and responsible for input into service planning and delivery, together with job performance as per role within the Association.
* Promote dignity at work and show respect to people we support, colleagues and stakeholders in the course of duty.
* Act in a confidential manner when dealing with personal information relating to people we support, families and staff.
* Attend staff training events as required and implement learning in the workplace.
Conditions:
The Association's Policies and Procedures form an integral part of the contract of employment.These are available on the staff intranet.
* To engage with and use the technology systems and packages provided by the Association to support day to day work and future planning needs.
* You will receive support and supervision from your Team Leader regarding your day to day work through the Supervisory Support Process in place in the Association.
* Clean Drivers License and Car is essential.
