Job Title: Staff Nurse in Day Surgery Unit
Role Purpose:
Deliver high-quality patient care and practice within established codes of conduct, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
You will be personally accountable for your actions at all times, promoting a safe environment for patients, visitors, and colleagues.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Registered in the general division of An Bord Altranais.
* Minimum 2 years of experience in acute hospital settings.
* Evidence of personal and professional development.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assessment, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation:
* Utilize assessment skills to identify patient needs upon admission.
* Document nursing admission assessments thoroughly and accurately.
* Continuously assess patient condition.
* Clearly define patient problems requiring nursing care.
* Develop and document personalized care plans based on patient needs and best practices.
* Update written or computerized care plans as necessary.
* Collaborate with healthcare team members in accordance with patient care plans.
* Develop discharge criteria from the time of admission.
* Plan work to allow time for training, meetings, etc.
* Provide comprehensive nursing care according to current standards and research.
* Administer care plans consistently and flexibly.
* Fulfill prescribed orders completely and accurately.
* Provide care with minimal supervision in a timely, accurate, and safe manner.
* Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and colleagues.
* Advocate for patients while respecting their dignity and confidentiality.
* Function effectively in emergency situations.
* Adapt to changing workloads.
* Know and adhere to legal requirements set by An Bord Altranais.
* Evaluate and update care plans appropriately.
* Assess personal nursing practice against standards of care and recognize own abilities and competence.
* Participate in quality assurance by identifying recurrent nursing issues and collaborating in data collection and problem-solving.
* Comply with hospital policies regarding infection prevention and control.
2. Communication Skills:
* Maintain documents according to hospital policies and procedures.
* Update documents to reflect physical and emotional symptoms and changes.
* Report relevant information verbally and in writing to appropriate nursing personnel.
* Respond appropriately to patient/family requests and questions.
* Communicate effectively with colleagues and other healthcare team members.
* Recognize self-limitations and seek assistance when needed.
* Attend and contribute to staff meetings and team briefings.
* Communicate in a manner that avoids antagonism, reduces conflict, and prevents undue anxiety.
3. Professional Expectations:
* Operate within established hospital policies, procedures, and standards.
