Ballymote Community Nursing Unit is registered to accommodate 32 male or female residents who require long-term residential care or who require short-term respite, convalescence or palliative care.

The nursing home is located in a residential area a short walk from the town of Ballymote. The building is single-storey and is decorated in a home-like way. The home has safe garden areas that are currently located and cultivated with raised beds and shrubs to make them interesting to residents.

Job Description:

Job Title: Activities Coordinator

Location: Ballymote Community Nursing Unit, Carrownanty, Ballymote, F56EP48

Reporting to: Director of Nursing

Purpose of the job:

To create and develop a programme whereby the quality of life of each resident within the Home is enhanced.

To organize and co-ordinate activities for each resident individually and in groups.

To identify the needs of individuals and groups and tailor the activities to suit their needs.

Activities programme to be designed to help maintain their interest.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

To provide suitable group and individual activities for residents.

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the resident(s) needs and outcomes.

Maintain accurate documentation of activities, and participation rates by Nazareth House requirements

Provide evidence of reviews of the activities programme

professionally perform all your work, to meet the reporting mechanism requirements: eg. reporting any changes in health and activity status to the Director of Nursing ll. Directing all enquiries regarding care to the Nurse on duty Encouraging residents to express their opinions/needs

Protect the rights of residents by:

o Maintaining confidentiality

o Respecting the individual's values, customs and spiritual beliefs

o Ensuring that their rights are protected

Liaise with other staff, relatives and friends of resident(s) to ensure full knowledge of their likes and dislikes.

Advertise the planned programme in an appropriate manner which encourages the involvement of all other staff and family.

Organise outings as appropriate, considering sufficient staffing requirements.

General:

To attend and participate in staff meetings and attend all mandatory training when required

To be familiar with all current policies and procedures, and to understand your duty to implement them when necessary

Adhere to HIA standards and local policies, procedures, standards and guidelines

To wear a uniform and name badge appropriate to your role

To ensure that all information of a confidential nature gained in the course of your role is not divulged to a third party

To promote and ensure the reputation of the Home at all times, both inside and outside at training sessions and other events.

Qualifications and Experience

Activities co-ordinator/s requires a wide range of skills e.g. arts, crafts, singing, and music are an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications:

The minimum desirable requirement is a FETAC level 5 certificate, preferably in the area of healthcare, or leisure studies

Demonstrate to be highly motivated and have excellent communication skills to deliver your activity programme.

Have a caring ability to deal with vulnerable persons, have patience and a positive outlook

The desire to commit to ongoing training and self-development.
