Staff Nurse – Theatre (Westmeath)
Responsibilities:

Deliver comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care across all perioperative phases — anaesthetic, scrub, and recovery.
Prepare and maintain the operating theatre, ensuring a safe, sterile, and efficient environment.
Assist the anaesthetist during induction, maintenance, and emergence from anaesthesia, ensuring safe patient positioning and airway management.
Act as scrub nurse during surgical procedures, maintaining aseptic technique, correct instrumentation, and accurate swab counts.
Monitor patients in the Post-Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU), assessing airway, vital signs, and pain, and provide appropriate interventions.
Safely administer prescribed medications and treatments in line with hospital policies and professional standards.
Advocate for patients’ safety, comfort, and dignity, and provide reassurance, education, and emotional support to patients and families.
Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists, operating department practitioners, and the multidisciplinary team, contributing to briefings and debriefings.
Participate in clinical audits, theatre efficiency projects, accreditation activities, and promote a culture of safety through incident reporting and risk management.
Maintain accurate documentation and ensure proper care, handling, and maintenance of surgical instruments and equipment.

Requirements:

Registered in the relevant division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann) or entitled to be so registered.
Minimum of 3 years post-registration full-time nursing experience, with at least 1 year in perioperative nursing or a related specialty.
Demonstrated clinical and administrative capacity to effectively discharge the functions of the role.
Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Relevant perioperative nursing experience in scrub, anaesthetic, or recovery roles, or a combination thereof.
Experience in both elective and emergency surgical procedures.
Familiarity with electronic documentation and theatre management systems.
Evidence of participation in quality improvement or patient safety initiatives.

Clinical Nurse Manager 3 – Theatre Manager (Westmeath)
Responsibilities:

Manage the Theatre Department, ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of nursing and clinical services with the patient at the centre of all activities.
Provide professional and operational leadership to nursing and support staff, fostering accountability, teamwork, and excellence in perioperative care.
Oversee compliance with clinical, safety, and accreditation standards through audits, walkabouts, and quality monitoring, ensuring continuous improvement.
Evaluate and enhance nursing care systems, implementing evidence-based practices to optimise service delivery and patient outcomes.
Drive operational efficiency in theatre scheduling, resource utilisation, and performance while maintaining quality and patient safety standards.
Manage recruitment, induction, workforce planning, and performance management, ensuring appropriate skill mix and effective rostering.
Promote learning and professional development through structured education, mentorship, competency assessments, and support for postgraduate study.
Lead quality improvement and risk management initiatives, including audits, KPI development, incident reviews, and implementation of corrective actions.
Collaborate and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and families, maintaining transparency and high service standards.
Liaise regularly with the Director of Nursing, participate in hospital committees, and contribute to strategic planning, financial management, and accreditation compliance.

Requirements:

Registered Nurse (NMBI) or hold an equivalent recognised qualification.
Minimum of five years’ recent post-registration experience in an acute hospital, including at least two years in a management role at CNM3 level or equivalent.
Hold a postgraduate qualification in Perioperative Nursing or a related field.
Demonstrate proven leadership, operational management, and decision-making skills.
Show experience in quality improvement, clinical governance, and service development.
Exhibit excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational abilities.
