Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Professional / Clinical
* Coordinate, assess, plan, implement, and review care for service users according to standards.
* Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care within guidelines set by An Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann.
* Practice nursing according to:
o Professional Clinical Guidelines
o National and Area Health Service Executive (HSE) guidelines
o Local policies, protocols, and guidelines
* Manage own caseload based on post requirements.
* Encourage evidence-based practice with a care planning approach.
* Participate in team activities, communicating and collaborating with team members.
* Collaborate with service users, families, carers, and staff in treatment/care planning and support.
* Communicate assessment results, treatment plans, and recommendations effectively.
* Plan discharge or transition of service users as appropriate.
* Provide staff leadership and motivation.
* Treat service users and others with dignity and respect.
* Maintain nursing records according to standards.
* Contribute to the development of nursing standards, protocols, and guidelines.
* Maintain confidentiality, ethics, and legislation compliance.
* Implement and assess quality management programs in consultation with CNM2 and other disciplines.
* Participate in clinical audits.
* Develop and implement health promotion programs.
* Lead and manage change initiatives.
* Operate within the scope of practice, seeking advice when beyond professional competence.
Health and Safety
The CNM1 will:
* Maintain a safe environment for all stakeholders.
* Ensure adherence to health and safety policies, including infection control and controlled drugs.
* Report and act on issues affecting care quality and safety.
* Complete incident reports as needed.
* Maintain equipment and comply with HIQA standards and protocols.
* Support sustainability initiatives.
Education and Training
The CNM1 will:
* Engage in ongoing professional development.
* Provide clinical and professional leadership.
* Supervise and develop staff and students.
* Participate in student assessment and performance reviews.
Management and Leadership
The CNM1 will:
* Exercise authority as deputized by CNM2.
* Coordinate staffing and resources effectively.
* Monitor trends and report to management.
* Participate in budget and service planning.
* Promote diversity and respect in the workplace.
* Maintain clinical and administrative records.
* Ensure equipment maintenance and legal compliance.
* Participate in management structures and IT developments.
