Overview
The CNS in Medical Oncology will provide expert nursing care and support to patients diagnosed with cancer undergoing systemic anti‑cancer therapy (SACT). The role acts as a liaison between patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams, ensuring continuity of care, symptom management and psychosocial support throughout the cancer journey.
Key Responsibilities
Patient and family education pre and post treatment.
Serve as a clinical resource for patients receiving chemotherapy, infusions, immunotherapy, etc.
Maintain a clinical database of patients, treatment, and outcomes.
Document procedures, evaluations, treatments, outcomes, education, and referrals in line with hospital policy and national/international standards.
Participate in follow‑up clinics and phone calls, including telephone triage using the UKONS tool.
Assess and manage patient responses to treatment, modify plans of care in collaboration with MDT.
Coordinate investigations, therapies and follow‑up, including medication reconciliation and review.
Lead nurse‑led clinics and manage survivorship care pathways.
Mentor and precept nursing colleagues.
Contribute to audit, research, and development of clinical standards, guidelines and new pathways.
Represent the specialist service at local, national and international forums.
Ensure compliance with HSE standards, PPPGs, and quality, risk and safety initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
Registered nurse on the active Register of Nurses and Midwives (or eligible to be registered).
Minimum of 4 years post‑registration experience in specialist cancer care.
Clinical expertise in IV/Oral chemotherapy administration, CVAD care, cannulation and venepuncture.
Experience with UKONS telephone triage toolkit and SACT management.
Strong knowledge of evidence‑based practice, audit, research and quality improvement.
Excellent communication, organisational, analytical and team‑working skills.
Current annual registration and competence in delivering professional nursing services in oncology.

Limerick Cancer Centre – Permanent position.
Salary
€62,077.17 – €76,158.63 per annum based on a 37.5‑hour week.
