Job Description
The main knowledge, skills and experience required for the Mechanical Estimator are outlined as follows:
* Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical estimating, preferably within the water, wastewater, or construction sectors. Proven track record in preparing detailed and accurate mechanical estimates.
* Skills: Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail; excellent knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and construction methods; proficiency in cost estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite; strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams; ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
* Main Duties and Responsibilities:
o Estimate Preparation: Develop detailed and accurate estimates for mechanical engineering works based on outline drawings and specifications.
o Risk and Governance Compliance: Ensure all procedures, including risk management and governance processes, are followed, thoroughly documented, and properly authorised.
o Tender Preparation: Contribute to the development of Tender Preparation and Tender Construction programmes.
o Procurement Planning: Work with central and regional buyers to prepare a procurement plan, identifying suppliers and subcontractors, and negotiating terms, conditions, and discount levels.
o Technical and Industry Awareness: Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of technical developments and new methods within the mechanical engineering industry.
o Financial Modelling: Develop financial models for framework submissions, including setting appropriate staff rates and ensuring these are aligned with project budgets.
o Cost Coding and Feedback: Utilise the standardised cost coding system to enable meaningful feedback and future cost capture, ensuring consistency and accuracy in financial tracking.
