Position: Chief Financial Officer Reporting to: CEO, Blackrock Clinic Location: Blackrock Clinic Key stakeholders Chief Executive Officer Chief Operating Officer Head of HR Director of Nursing Facilities Manager Head of Quality and Safety Medical Director Group Chief Financial Officer Background Blackrock Clinic is the leading and longest established premier private hospital and clinic in Ireland. Since it opened in the mid-1980s, the clinic has consistently built an unparalleled reputation in new high-tech surgical procedures, medical treatments, and ground-breaking diagnostics. Blackrock Clinic is part of Blackrock Health private hospital group along with the Hermitage Clinic, Galway Clinic, Womens Health Centre and Limerick Clinic, some of the most advanced hospitals in Irish private healthcare. As a JCI accredited hospital, Blackrock Clinic is a progressive and pioneering hospital in which care for the patient is central to everything we do. Blackrock Healths ambitious capital development program will deliver €500million of investment over the coming 4 years, growing the business significantly and transforming health care delivery for our patients. Coupled with an operational restructuring underpinned by a group wide electronic platform, the Chief Financial Officer will play a pivotal role in transforming the business and setting the financial strategy for the coming decade. Role purpose Strategically set the finance function on a pathway to success for the coming decade. Oversee a significant capital expenditure program in conjunction with operational transformative development. Implementation and ongoing development of financial systems in conjunction with the evolution of a group wide electronic health care record. Restructure finance teams to prepare for future state. Provide assurance to the CEO and Board in areas of financial probity, cost accounting, audit and payroll. Development of an annual budgets which aligns with the Blackrock Clinic financial and operational strategy. Lead strategic negotiations with Private Insurance payors. Restructure finance function to incorporate billing, verifications and payroll. Key responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Financial Stewardship Lead the development and execution of Blackrock Clinics financial strategy, ensuring alignment with the wider Blackrock Health Groups €500m investment programme. Provide insightful, data-driven financial advice to the CEO and Executive Team, influencing hospital-wide decision-making. Support long-term growth through commercial analysis, service line profitability reviews, and capital investment planning. Contribute to strategic decisions relating to expansion, new services, partnerships, digital transformation, and operational improvement. Financial Planning, Management & Governance Oversee robust budgeting, forecasting, performance monitoring, and financial reporting. Ensure full compliance with financial, regulatory, and audit requirements. Implement and maintain strong internal controls, risk management frameworks, and financial governance structures. Lead the annual budgeting process and rolling forecast cycles across all hospital departments. Programme & Capital Investment Support Ensure accurate financial oversight of all capital, ICT, and operational readiness workstreams. Support evaluation, business cases, and financial modelling for major capital investments, technology upgrades, and clinical service expansions. Ensure financial transparency and provide timely insights to governance forums and Boards. Commercial & Operational Performance Lead commercial analysis, pricing strategies, and financial optimisation initiatives to support growth and margin improvement. Collaborate with clinical and operational leaders to improve efficiency, streamline processes, and maximise resource utilisation. Drive innovation in financial systems, digital tools, and analytics to enhance visibility and decision-making. Support pricing strategy, contract negotiation, and financial performance discussions with insurers and other funding partners. Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, integrity, and service excellence. Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholdersincluding consultants, insurers, suppliers, auditors, regulators, and Group peers. Represent Blackrock Clinic at Group-level financial forums as required. Key competencies Senior finance leadership experience in a complex, multi-stakeholder environmenthealthcare, large-scale services, regulated sectors, or capital-intensive industries beneficial. Proven ability to lead financial strategy in environments undergoing major transformation, growth, or capital investment. Strong track record of financial governance, commercial acumen, and operational insight. Demonstrated experience partnering at Executive and Board level. Expertise in business case development, risk assessment, and long-term financial planning. Qualifications and experience A qualified Accountant with a minimum of ten years senior financial management experience in a significantly complex and fast-paced environment. Proven commercial and financial leader with a strong track record of maximising profitability of an operating entity. Experience garnered ideally from medical, health services or insurance and/ or a deep appreciation and understanding of the challenges associated with pricing, contracts and insurers. Excellent financial and leadership experience in management, financial operations, fiscal affairs, strategic financial planning, internal controls and compliance Through working knowledge of government and insurance reimbursement payment methodologies, including contractual accounting, payment calculations, billing requirements and compliance issues. Blackrock Health Group Masterplan Programme Blackrock Health is undertaking a major investment of €500 million across its Group of hospitals incorporating Blackrock Clinic, Hermitage Clinic, Galway Clinic and Limerick Clinic. Over the next five years, the investment will facilitate significant expansion across the three hospitals including an additional total of 187 beds, (77 in-patient beds and 110 ambulatory care beds) 14 new operating theatres, 6 new cardiac cath labs and a cancer centre. Thus, bringing the Group to a total of 808 beds including 495 in-patient beds, 313 day-case beds, 36 operating theatres and 10 cardiac cath labs. Continued investment will also be made into technology to deliver key speciality healthcare services. At Blackrock Clinic this expansion will mean an additional 47 in-patient beds and 63 ambulatory care beds located within the existing site.5 new operating theatres and 2 new cardiac cath labs will also be located in the hospital. Blackrock Clinic will also be the home of the new cancer centre for the group. This will include 2 radiation suites and an expanded medical oncology unit to support cancer surgeries. Hermitage Clinic will see an increase of 25 ambulatory care beds, 4 new operating theatres, 2 new endoscopy suites, 2 refurbished cardiac cath labs and 1 new cardiac cath lab located on the site.A new dedicated eye health clinic will also be opened at the Hermitage Clinic. The Galway Clinic expansion will include 30 new in-patient beds, 7 new ambulatory care beds for cardiology further 15 ambulatory care beds will be opened along with 5 new operating theatres, 1 new cardiac cath lab and a new cardiac CT scanner increasing its capacity to provide cardiology services in the west. Our plans for each hospital in the group are aligned to best practice thinking on the delivery of healthcare services in the future and respond to the needs of patients that we treat across each location. This includes expansion on ambulatory care beds by utilising the latest in medical advancements and as a result, reducing the need for hospital stays. Our continued investment in technology will enable our teams to continue to deliver world-class care whilst leveraging the very latest innovations in healthcare technology. Once complete, Blackrock Health, combining Hermitage, Blackrock, Galway and Limerick Clinics, will employ over 4,000 staff providing world-class care in 495 inpatient beds, 313 ambulatory care beds, 36 operating theatres and 10 cardiac cath labs.
