Staff Nurse Pre-assessment Clinic – UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic, SantryLocation: Sports Surgery Clinic. Job type: Permanent.Overview of roleUPMC Sports Surgery Clinic are recruiting a Staff Nurse Pre-Assessment. To provide and coordinate exceptional patient care in Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic. The Staff nurse will work as an integral member of the nursing and multidisciplinary team involved in the provision of evidence-based care to patients.Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesUndertake the assessment of care needs, and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care within the Pre-Assessment Clinic setting.Carry out all relevant forms of care unsupervised.Act on behalf of patients and carers to ensure their views are respected.Assist Consultants with side room procedures adhering to hospital policies.Work in collaboration with members of the multi-disciplinary team, this includes working in Phlebotomy and the wound clinic.Clinical ResponsibilitiesLiaise with Patient Services staff to ensure that all patients awaiting an elective procedure are screened prior to surgery.Inform Patient Services staff of any DNA's to clinic.Participate in the pre-assessment of surgical patients and the subsequent planning and implementation which includes evaluation of their care.Promote best practice in all aspects of care delivered to patients, relatives and their carers.Respect individual's privacy, dignity, wishes and beliefs, minimising any unnecessary discomfort and encouraging full participation in the assessment of need.Obtain informed consent for all nursing procedures, which may include taking of blood, recording of ECGs, measuring clinical observations and recording confidential information.Interpret all of the information available and make a justifiable assessment of patient's health and well-being.Organise venapuncture and indicated investigations in the clinic, interpret blood results, and discuss findings with relevant medical and anaesthetic staff (as per Clinic protocols).Liaise with GP's to ensure that any patients unfit for surgery are treated prior to surgery or referred to other specialities.Participate in maintaining effective working relationships with other departments in SSC and external agencies.Liaise with and support all members of the multidisciplinary team working in the department.Ensure that equipment (both disposable and non-disposable) is maintained and stock managed to ensure economical use of all resources.Follow up on all Paper work, outstanding test results for patients.Qualifications & ExperienceBe a Registered Nurse and eligible to register with An Bord Altranais on the General Division of the live register.Have at least 2-3 years experience in this role in a hospital setting.ExperienceHave managed patient care ensuring the highest professional standards using an evidence-based and care planning approach.Be computer literate.Have excellent interpersonal skills and proven written and verbal communication abilities.Have the ability to work on own initiative, prioritise and manage a number of issues simultaneously and demonstrate attention to detail.Be able to identify potential difficulties and formulate solutions.Be free from any defect or disease which would render him/her unsuitable to hold office and be in a state of health as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.Be of good character.Equal Opportunity Statement and BenefitsUPMC is an equal opportunity celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environmentfor all employees.At UPMC we provide a total rewards program that is not only market competitive, but fair and provides growth opportunities for all our colleagues.CompensationCompetitive pay for the work employees do - base pay, performance related pay and premium pay where applicable.Performance and RecognitionRewards for performance that supports the goals and mission of UPMC through our annual ACES programme.Development and Career OpportunitiesOpportunities for each employee to reach their career goals through continued learning and/or advancement.About UPMCUPMC is a renowned multinational academic medical centre committed to delivering people-focused care that's close to in Pittsburgh and affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh Schools of the Health Sciences, UPMC shapes the future of health through clinical and technological innovation, research and expands its expertise globally, bringing world-class care across continents through its UPMC International division - an owned and operated network of hospitals and ambulatory care centres in Italy, Ireland and Croatia.
