Principal Automation Engineer
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Automation Engineer to join our team at Stryker Tullagreen. As a key member of our engineering department, you will drive a culture of automation, innovation, and continuous improvement.
About the Role
The successful candidate will have technical oversight of multiple automation projects and support engineers developing and implementing these projects, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of automated systems.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop a detailed understanding of best practices in product/process performance within the medical devices industry.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities and prioritize initiatives.
* Drive high levels of employee engagement through effective support structures for all engineers.
* Develop technical solutions to complex problems requiring in-depth evaluation of variables.
* Lead the design and implementation of automation strategies across projects.
* Lead design, development, testing, and refinement of automated systems, sub-systems, and components.
* Track project milestones, manage risks and issues proactively.
* Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to automation systems.
* Support code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards.
* Develop and maintain automation frameworks and tools to streamline processes.
* Create documentation for automated systems to facilitate standardization, including Dynamic URS, simplified change control, and system specifications meeting various standards.
* Assist in developing training materials and user guides.
* Stay updated on industry trends, tools, and technologies related to automation.
* Provide training and support to end-users on new automation systems and processes.
* Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding progress and challenges.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance automation efficiency and effectiveness.
* Oversee automation projects from conception to execution, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
* Mentor and guide engineers in automation best practices.
Requirements
* BS in Engineering (Level 8 Honours Degree); an advanced degree (Masters, Black Belt, or PhD) is desirable.
* Minimum of 8 years of automation engineering/systems experience.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
* Excellent presentation and written/verbal communication skills.
* Technical leadership experience in automated systems.
* Proven track record of leading successful automation projects and teams.
* Experience with automation tools (e.g., PLC, SCADA, HMI).
* Strong understanding of control systems such as Allen Bradley, Siemens, robotics, and industrial automation.
* Familiarity with data analysis tools and techniques.
* Ability to work autonomously and lead significant projects.
* Team player with a flexible approach.
* Willingness to source, investigate, and implement technological and automation advances.
* Experience in the Medical Device Industry and in Automated Packaging, Blasting, Linishing, Polishing, Deburring, and Masking is desirable.
