Munster Technological University (Cork Campus), incorporates the Bishopstown Campus together with the Crawford College of Art & Design (CCAD), Cork School of Music, 46 Grand Parade and the National Maritime College.
The Buildings & Estates Office (B&E) is responsible for the overall management of the University Estate, including Land and Property Management, Master Planning, Capital Development, Facilities Management.
The Office provides integrated support services related to the physical infrastructure and facilities management of the university.
The university is now seeking applications from candidates for the post of Carpenter to serve as part of the B & E Team.
Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Carpenter Craftsperson will carry out maintenance and repair works that are delegated to him/her, in a safe manner.
The Carpenter Craftsperson will be able to work on their own initiative or as part of a team.
The craftsperson will be based in the MTU CCAD Sharman Crawford Street Campus and reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor General Duties and Responsibilities of the post: The Carpenter Craftsperson will: Be a competent, experienced and qualified Carpenter.
Have a good working knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation and be able to work in compliance with MTU Safety procedures and all other relevant Safety Legislation and Standards.
Comply with the work requests of the Helpdesk/Work Order Requests system in an efficient manner.
Direct MTU General Operatives when they are assisting with Carpentry tasks.
As a representative of the Buildings & Estates Office, be proactive in reporting any faults/hazards in any discipline or equipment to the Buildings & Estates Office.
Assist in scheduling and planning the safe implementation of Carpentry or related maintenance work, small projects and other ad hoc tasks, assigned to him/her.
Assist with college emergencies e.g clean-up after roof leaks or similar.
To participate in further training as may be required from time to time.
Co-operate with the changing requirements of the MTU Buildings and Estates Office.
Specific Duties: All carpentry related works including; Repair doors, frames, hinges, over-head closures and locks.
Fit new doors and frames.
Fit Salto locks and key locks to doors.
Fit fire stopping material around services.
Window repairs, maintenance and glass replacement including rooflights.
Repair roof covering Miscellaneous carpentry works including skirting, architraves and window boards Assist with events preparation and emergency evacuations Fabrication of timber units, cupboards including modification and repair of existing units, cupboards, shelving etc.
Snag work undertaken by external contractors to ensure work is carried out to the required standard.
Relocation and upkeep of demountable timber partitions and notice boards.
Maintaining the external fabric of prefabricated buildings.
External grounds maintenance including power washing, repairs of external seating and boundary fences, collection of waste on occasions.
Take on the role of MTU Responsible Person from time to time when the Supervisor is unavailable.
Responsible for tools and equipment required for the work Ensure adequate materials are in stock to complete tasks.
Qualifications & Requirements for the position: Essential: ? Be able to demonstrate the ability to carry out the duties and responsibilities as detailed above.
? Have a recognised National Craft Certificate or equivalent in carpentry.
? Have a minimum of 6 years current carpentry craft experience in a large-scale facilities maintenance environment.
? Have a good working knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation.
? Hold a current Safe Pass Card ? Have good communication skills.
? Be able to work on his/her own initiative and to enthusiastically deliver a prompt, customer focused service.
? Be flexible enough to adapt to new challenges as they arise Desirable: ? Be computer literate.
? Knowledge of scaffolding erection and use of Mobile Elevated Work Platforms.
? Forklift Certified.
