Focus Ireland are recruiting Relief Social Care Workers to support our service in Clonmel, Co Tipperary. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a leading organisation in the field of social care. You will work in a U18s residential service and develop your professional practice to an exceptional standard.
The service provides short-term accommodation to young people, aged 15-17, who have been displaced from their home.
Flexible working hours are available to suit your availability. You may be called for a shift at any stage, but are under no obligation to accept it. You are paid for the hours you work. Sleepovers and day shifts are available.
Salary: Base hourly rate of €18.54, with generous premium rates for live nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
Primary Purpose: To work as part of Focus Ireland’s residential children’s service, providing care, protection, and support to vulnerable or dependent young people, individually or in groups, in conjunction with the wider multidisciplinary team and relevant agencies.
What You Will Do
1. Work within the framework of Focus Ireland's objectives and values.
2. Work on a relief basis as part of a team, following policies and procedures, under the guidance of the project leader or manager.
3. Participate in developing and implementing care and placement plans.
4. Support young people who have experienced trauma and display challenging behaviour.
5. Refer and support young people with external agencies for personal, social, educational, employment, legal, and accommodation needs.
6. Promote young people's participation in decision-making affecting their lives.
7. Support the rights and responsibilities of each young person within the service.
8. Liaise with parents, family, general services, and other agencies on behalf of the young person.
9. Maintain records related to the project and individual clients, complying with statutory and health & safety regulations.
10. Attend and contribute to team, review, and agency meetings.
11. Collaborate with other Focus Ireland projects.
12. Undertake additional duties as assigned by the Manager.
13. Observe all health, safety, and welfare regulations and report concerns.
What You Will Need
1. A Third Level Degree in Social Care.
2. Proven experience in relief/part-time social care work.
3. Experience supporting marginalised clients/groups, preferably adolescents.
4. Understanding of social issues affecting young people experiencing homelessness.
5. Ability to support clients in crisis with challenging behaviours, based on best practice principles.
6. Knowledge of Child Protection policies.
Ideally
1. Knowledge of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention model.
2. Understanding of the National Standards for Children’s Residential Centres.
3. Experience with key working, assessments, and care planning.
4. Ability to work well in a team.
5. Reliability and flexibility.
6. Excellent report writing and IT skills.
