Overview
Atlantic Flight Training Academy are recruiting for a Continuing Airworthiness Manager (CAM) NP & Maintenance Department Manager to lead and strengthen our Engineering and Continuing Airworthiness Management (CAM) functions.
AFTA operates a large fleet of Cessna 172 aircraft, Diamond DA42 & DA40, Slingsby T67 and Vulcanair P68 aircraft, training domestic and international cadets for some of the world's largest airlines and providing aircraft for Aerial Survey missions.
This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for business management, people leadership, operational efficiency, and regulatory engagement within AFTA's maintenance and continuing airworthiness organisation under our Part CAO.
While this position is not a hands-on engineering role, a solid knowledge of general aviation aircraft and maintenance operations is essential.
The successful candidate will lead and develop a team of 10, including the Chief Engineer, Deputy Chief Engineer, B1.2 Licensed Engineers, ARC Signatories, Aircraft Mechanics, and CAM Support staff.
As the nominated CAM Postholder, you will ensure compliance with all applicable regulations while maintaining oversight of three busy hangars and delivering safe, efficient turnaround of aircraft to support a high-volume flight training operation.
Key Responsibilities
CAM Nominated Postholder under the AFTA Part CAO.
Provide strategic leadership and direction across both Engineering and CAM departments.
Manage, mentor, and support a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, mechanics, and CAM support staff.
Hold full financial responsibility for the Engineering Department, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost management.
Oversight of continuing airworthiness administration, including issuing, collecting, and securely retaining all aircraft documentation
Oversight of all purchasing activities, ensuring timely and accurate stock orders for the Department.
Drive operational efficiency, ensuring effective use of resources, optimised workflows, and minimal downtime.
Work in close partnership with Flight Operations to ensure maximum aircraft availability and a reliable flight line.
Act as the primary liaison with the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA), other regulatory bodies, and survey department clients.
Ensure full regulatory compliance and adherence to company standards.
Lead, motivate, and develop staff to achieve high levels of accountability, performance, and professional growth.
Support internal audits, external regulatory audits and customer audits
Represent the Engineering Department at senior management level both internally and externally, contributing to strategic planning and decision-making.
Demonstrate flexibility to meet programme deadlines, including completing tasks outside normal working hours.
Essential Requirements
EDUCATION
Degree in Aviation Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field (or equivalent significant industry experience).
EXPERIENCE
Minimum 7–10 years' experience in aviation operations, engineering management, or CAM oversight, ideally within general aviation.
Demonstrated financial and operational management experience with proven ability to manage budgets and improve efficiency.
Strong track record of leadership and people management experience across multi-disciplinary teams.
Experience engaging with aviation authorities, clients, or other regulatory stakeholders.
Holding an unrestricted EASA Part-66 Category B1.2 Licence and/or practical aircraft maintenance experience is desirable but not essential.
(Support will be provided to B1 or B2 licence holders working towards a B1.2.)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & CHARACTERISTICS
Fluent English speaker, both spoken and written.
Familiarity with CAM processes, EASA & IAA Part CAO regulatory requirements, and general aviation operations.
Computer literate, with working knowledge of Microsoft Software Programs
Highly organised and able to prioritise work in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
Strong attention to detail in multi-tasking situations and the ability to deliver results to tight timelines.
Responsible, proactive and flexible approach
Strong Communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to forge positive working relationships.
Demonstrate a 'Safety in the air, starts on the ground' mindset.
Ability to hold airport restricted zone access.
Relocation & Work Permit support will be provided to the right candidate.
