About the Naval Service:
The Naval Service is a multi-tasked organisation operating a fleet of ships with state-of-the-art machinery, weapons, communications, and navigation systems.
We are now accepting applications for positions as direct entry Electrical Engineering Officers. The Naval Service is looking to recruit suitably qualified Electrical Engineers to be part of our team that patrols and protects our territorial waters.
About the role of Electrical Engineering Officer (ELO):
* Officers of the Electrical Branch are responsible for the design, procurement, installation and maintenance of various systems within the Naval Service fleet including power generation and distribution, navigation systems, communication systems, weapons systems, environmental systems and maintenance of the Naval Service IT infrastructure.
* During a sea posting the ELOs will be a critical member of the ships engineering department. Responsibilities will include, Electrical, Electronic, and Control Systems governing the vessels Manoeuvrability, Defence and Intelligence gathering.
* From the military perspective, leadership is a core competency of the role. The Naval College will provide the grounding, to ensure individual officers are competent and capable of carrying out any/all assigned military roles and responsibilities.
* ELO's may serve in appointments onboard ships, ashore and potentially overseas.
* On completion of a sea rotation, you will be posted into a shore appointment in the Naval Dockyard, Naval Base or the Naval College (NMCI) in Cork and will be responsible for some of the following: Project Management (PM), maintenance planning, researching new equipment, planning and procurement.
* ELO's are encouraged to avail of internal training courses and funded Continual Professional Development (CPD) in such disciplines as Project Management, Engineering Master's programs, ATEX1 Standards Training, Energy Management, Noise Surveys & Vibration Analysis Certification, Health & Safety third level qualifications.
Essential Requirements:
* General Requirements:
o be a citizen of the Irish State OR have a legal entitlement to reside and work in the State for the period of any such appointment AND be of good character and satisfy any security clearance required during the recruitment process AND meet the required minimum standards of medical and physical fitness as assessed during the recruitment process
* Age Requirements:
o Candidates must be less than 50 years of age on 31 December in the year of application
* Professional Qualifications:
o a recognised Bachelor Degree (Honours) at level 8 or higher of the National Framework of Qualifications in either Electrical or Electronic Engineering OR a qualification that is deemed by the Minister for Defence to be at least equivalent to the qualifications at subparagraph (a) above
Recruitment Process:
Please note, candidates will be invited to attend a competency-based interview where they will be required to draw from their relevant experience. Candidates who successfully pass the competency-based interview will be required to complete a medical assessment and go through a Garda Vetting process.
Pay and Allowances:
A competitive basic starting salary of €57,955 with yearly increments. Naval Service personnel receive an additional approx. €20,570 per annum. Additional allowances for overseas service are not included. This allowance starts at €15,000 per annum in addition to your salary and is tax free.
