Offer description

47 Months, Fixed Term, part-time Post The Centre for Gerontology and Rehabilitation (CGR) was established in University College Cork (UCC) as a research unit within the Department of Medicine at UCC in September 2010. In addition to research-led clinical project activity, the centre supports interdisciplinary teaching and learning in Gerontology, Rehabilitation and Palliative Care through its Postgraduate Programmes in Older Person Rehabilitation and Dementia. Our core mission is to promote healthy ageing and to raise the standard of healthcare for older people. Ongoing research is focused on Parkinson's Disease, dementia and delirium, rehabilitation, advance care planning and palliative care in neurodegeneration, with a strong focus on research that is user-focussed and informs policy and quality improvement in the Health Service. CGR staff and researchers are from a broad range of disciplines and CGR has strong links to many other departments in the School of Medicine, and to other schools in the College of Medicine and Health, particularly Nursing and Clinical Therapies. Centre for Gerontology and Rehabilitation Centre for Gerontology and Rehabilitation | University College Cork is currently recruiting a Post-Doctoral Researcher to work on the HEA-funded PD-Life consortium. We are seeking a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Researcher to join PD-Life, which is an emerging all-island hub of excellence that unites researchers, clinicians, people with Parkinson's, and advocacy partners to transform the understanding and care of Parkinson's disease (PD) across the island of Ireland. Focussing on stigma, gender and culture, mental health, physical activity, and wearable technology, the consortium projects will generate integrated, person-centred evidence to improve quality of life and support innovative interventions, foster cross-border collaboration, and train and mentor the next generation of Parkinson's disease research leaders. PD-LIFE is a consortium across 5 universities in Ireland (i.e., University College Cork, Queen's University Belfast, University of Limerick, Trinity College Dublin, University of Ulster), and the Tyndall Institute. Achievement of the expected progression within Post Doc and Senior Post Doc is transferable between the Irish HEI's. This can be reflected in the starting pay of a PD researcher. Similarly, as the PD scheme is an intergenerational training scheme completion of PD1 or PD 2 levels in one HEI will normally render that researcher ineligible for appointment at a similar level in another Irish HEI Researcher Career Development Framework | Irish Universities Association Please note that Garda vetting and/or an international police clearance check may form part of the selection process. Project Title: HEA - 'PD Life' Post Duration: 47 Months, part-time Post For an information package including full details of the post, selection criteria and application process see The University, at its discretion, may undertake to make an additional appointment(s) from this competition following the conclusion of the process.
