Purpose of the Role
The National Governance Lead is responsible for establishing, overseeing and ensuring the implementation of effective governance frameworks, policies and practices across grassroots football. This role promotes ethical behaviour, transparency and accountability and works closely with stakeholders to implement welfare, safeguarding and governance policies. The role also leads and supports the governance aspects of FAI Club & League Mark programmes and the Affiliate Governance Code.
Key Responsibilities
Governance Framework for Grassroots Football
* Develop, implement and monitor a national governance framework that supports the integrity, growth and sustainability of grassroots football.
* Promote best practice governance across clubs, leagues and affiliates.
Compliance & Legal Oversight
* Ensure grassroots football organisations comply with national regulations, including child welfare and financial management standards.
* Maintain up to date knowledge of relevant legislation and governance standards.
Support & Advisory Role
* Provide expert governance guidance and support to stakeholders.
* Offer advice to volunteers, coaches and administrators on compliance and best practice.
Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
* Build and maintain strong relationships with external and internal stakeholders to strengthen governance systems.
* Collaborate with clubs, leagues, and regional teams to implement governance initiatives.
Training & Capacity Building
* Lead governance training sessions and workshops for grassroots stakeholders.
* Develop resources and tools to support effective governance implementation.
Monitoring & Reporting
* Track and assess the effectiveness of governance frameworks.
* Generate reports for senior management, highlighting compliance, risks and opportunities for improvement.
Advocacy & Promotion
* Act as a national advocate for governance, promoting its importance and benefits across grassroots football.
* Raise awareness and encourage adoption of governance policies among clubs and grassroots organisations.

Experience and Qualifications
Essential:
* Proven experience in developing and implementing governance frameworks, policies and procedures.
* Experience advising boards, committees and volunteers.
* Understanding of football regulations and the grassroots football ecosystem.
* Experience identifying governance risks and implementing national strategies via Club & League Mark programmes.
* Ability to influence policy and manage stakeholders across multiple regions.
* Strong organisational, time management and problem solving skills
Desirable:
* Experience in public speaking or presenting at meetings/events.
* Comfortable with reporting tools, KPIs and data collection.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
