Primary Job Function
Our location in Dublin, IE (Cherrywood) currently has an opportunity for a Senior Network Engineer. The candidate is responsible for solution design, implementation, and operational support of Abbott’s global Wide Area Network (WAN) services. This position will serve as the technical lead for projects involving complex planning for all Abbott network infrastructure including detailed design creation, proposals, analysis, project preparation/implementation/support, and troubleshooting complex networks. Responsible for timely interaction with customers of the platform, peer technologists, and senior management. The ideal candidate will have experience in WAN and advanced knowledge of routing protocols with a focus on SDWAN. The candidate will also have general knowledge of Data Center Networking, Routing, Switching, Wireless Access, Firewall Controls, Load Balancing, Security Infrastructure, Remote Access Connectivity Solutions (Cisco AnyConnect, Zscaler ZPA), and Network Segmentation technologies.
Core Job Responsibilities
* Troubleshoot WAN, SD-WAN, LAN, WLAN including routers, and other network-related hardware.
* Design and continuously improve network monitoring and observability capabilities.
* Proficient in protocols and technologies: EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, GRE, IPSEC, MPLS, STP, HSRP, OMP, NAT, VPN.
* Define WAN architecture and hardware requirements for project proposals.
* Design, execute, support day-to-day service requests.
* Lead large-scale network refresh projects and divisional expansion projects.
* Design and manage network capacity and performance.
* Evaluate opportunities for network performance and functionality improvements.
* Participate in automation development efforts.
* Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and best practices.
* Negotiate technical design and deployment strategies with stakeholders.
* Serve as a technical SME and provide consulting support.
* Maintain accurate engineering documentation.
* Collaborate with Cybersecurity for security and vulnerability assessments.
* Integrate technical expertise with communication and leadership skills.
* Mentor Network Operations in resolving incident tickets.
* Create and improve playbooks for Network Operations.
* Troubleshoot network issues including performance, routing, connectivity, and hardware failures.
* Analyze WAN traffic to identify top talkers and traffic types.
* Coordinate with vendors and internal departments for circuit provisioning and validation.
Position Accountability / Scope
* Manage multiple projects, resolve incidents, and meet deadlines.
* Master network security concepts and possess expertise in switching, routing, directory services, TCP/IP.
* Knowledge of routing protocols: BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, OMP.
* Knowledge of security protocols and vulnerabilities.
* Customer-centric approach and excellent communication skills.
* Responsible for the global network and security infrastructure.
* Stay updated with industry trends and recommend architecture improvements.
* Develop technical skills and industry standards to support business needs.
Minimum Education & Experience
Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Telecommunications, or related field, or equivalent experience. Preferred: MS in related fields. Certifications: CCNA, CCNP, CCSE, CCIE. 8+ years of networking experience. Multilingual skills are a plus. Experience in regulated environments is a plus.
Experience / Training Needed
* 8+ years in multinational enterprise networking.
* Designing enterprise routing, switching, MPLS, VPN, SD-WAN, WLAN, security solutions, and automation.
* Experience with Cisco, Viptela SDWAN, Riverbed, Infoblox, Check Point, Palo Alto, Citrix, F5, Cisco ACI, Zscaler, and related technologies.
