Overview
BROTHERS OF CHARITY SERVICES IRELAND – WEST REGION offers services to people with an intellectual disability in Galway City and County, and Roscommon.
The role supports adults in the West Sector, and on specific referrals, adults in the East Sector and Children Sector, with behaviours that challenge, to help improve their quality of life and progress toward their personal outcomes.
Role and Responsibilities
Support adults with intellectual disability who present with behaviours that challenge by conducting assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of specialised interventions.
Work as a key member of a Multi-Disciplinary Team, providing integrated supports for the individual, their family, frontline staff and the wider MDT.
Operate as part of a peripatetic team, with a major clinical focus on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of supports agreed for those we support.
Carry out observations and implement interventions primarily in the person's own home or workplace, with some late evenings and weekends as service needs require.
Engage in individual sessional work with the person in their office where appropriate.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
Registered Nurse, preferably Intellectual Disability (RNID), on the live Register of Nurses with NMBI.
Post-registration qualification relevant to Behaviour Support at level 9 or higher.
For CNS/CNS Candidate applicants: where a level 8 qualification in Behaviour Support is held (60 ECTS or above), this is recognised up to September ****.
Minimum 1 year of practice experience and 1 year in Behaviour Support; opportunity to progress on a candidate CNS Pathway within 2 years.
At least 5 years post-registration experience supporting adults with an intellectual disability.
Minimum of three years experience working with people who present with behaviours that challenge.
Strong understanding of the Positive Behaviour Support framework and ability to demonstrate it pragmatically.
Current, full, clean manual driving licence (essential).
Fluency in verbal and written English; adequate IT skills.
Working Hours and Remuneration
Working hours: 75 hours per fortnight based on a 5-day week roster.
Contracted hours may include 8:00 to 20:00, including weekends and public holidays, as service needs require.
Personal outcomes model requires flexibility in working hours.
Leave: 25 days per annum; service-related leave (1 day after 5 years nursing service; 2 days after 10 years).
Remuneration: Department of Health Clinical Nurse Specialist salary scale (01/08/2025) – €61,463 to €75,405 per annum; Long Service Increment €77,666 after 3 years at maximum.
CNS Candidate salary scale (01/08/2025) – €56,642 to €66,705 per annum.
This post is permanent full-time and pensionable (subject to meeting qualification criteria).
A nine-month probationary period applies.
