Mayo, Ireland, in a pivotal Senior Design Engineer role.
This position is a key leadership opportunity within the R&D team, focused on driving complex mechanical design projects from conceptualisation through to mass production.
This role requires an experienced professional capable of independent project ownership, technical leadership, and mentoring junior staff while ensuring designs meet the highest standards of performance, cost-efficiency, and compliance in heavy equipment.
Core Responsibilities The Senior Design Engineer will operate autonomously, leading technical projects and providing guidance to the broader engineering team.
Project Leadership & Ownership: Lead the full design cycle for major sub-assemblies and complete product lines for spreading and application equipment.
Own the technical specification and delivery of complex projects.
Advanced CAD & System Design: Perform advanced 3D CAD modelling (SolidWorks) and complex finite element analysis (FEA) to validate designs, focusing on stress analysis, fatigue life, and material selection for robustness.
Mentorship & Quality Control: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Junior Engineers.
Review and approve manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation to ensure optimal quality and manufacturability.
Innovation & Cost Reduction: Actively research new materials, components, and precision technology integration to improve product performance, reduce manufacturing costs, and enhance user functionality.
Supplier & Manufacturing Engagement: Work closely with procurement and external suppliers on component specification.
Act as a primary technical point of contact with the production floor to resolve critical design changes and fabrication challenges quickly and efficiently.
Candidate Profile & CompensationEssential Criteria Minimum of 5 years of post-graduate experience in mechanical design, preferably within the heavy machinery, industrial equipment, or automotive sectors.
Proven expert-level proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and a demonstrated track record of taking products successfully from concept to market.
Demonstrable expertise in steel fabrication, welding practices, hydraulic systems, and power transmission components.
Strong analytical skills with experience in performing and interpreting FEA results.
Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously and excellent leadership and communication skills.
Compensation Salary Range: €55,000 €70,000 per annum (Highly competitive and negotiable based on experience) Location: Co.
