School of Population Health The School of Population Health at RCSI is committed to advancing health and wellbeing through world-leading research, education and collaboration.
The School brings together multidisciplinary expertise across epidemiology, health services research, public health, health policy, and equity-focused research to address complex health challenges at local, national and global levels.
Purpose of Role The Postdoctoral Researcher will contribute to the HEA-funded Equality, Diversity and Inclusion project "Embedding Gender and Intersectionality in Academic Health Research: A PROGRESS-Plus Informed, Co-Designed Framework for Capacity Building and Knowledge Translation in RCSI and Partner HEIs."
The project aims to strengthen gender equity and intersectional inclusion in academic research practices across Irish Higher Education Institutions through the development of an evidence-based toolkit and CPD-accredited training programme informed by the PROGRESS-Plus framework and participatory methodologies.
This role sits within a highly collaborative research environment and offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative, policy-relevant work addressing structural inequalities in academic research and health systems.
Working within the School of Population Health and the Cameron research team, the Postdoctoral Researcher will support the implementation of the project with partner institutions.
The role will involve coordinating participatory research activities, contributing to toolkit and training development, supporting stakeholder engagement and assisting with project dissemination and evaluation.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with academic researchers, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) offices, Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) stakeholders and partner institutions to support the delivery of the project objectives.
Project Objectives The project aims to: • Advance gender equity and intersectional approaches in academic health research • Develop and implement evidence-based tools and training (including a CPD-accredited programme) • Support capacity building across RCSI and partner HEIs • Strengthen institutional research practices through co-design and participatory methodologies Core Responsibilities Research and Evidence Synthesis • Conduct literature and policy reviews relating to gender equity and intersectionality in academic research.
• Support the development of evidence-informed frameworks and guidance related to the PROGRESS-Plus framework.
• Analyse qualitative and survey data generated through project activities.
Participatory Research and Stakeholder Engagement • Support the organisation and facilitation of participatory research activities including workshops and World Café sessions.
• Engage with academic staff, students, PPI representatives and EDI stakeholders to capture diverse perspectives on inclusive research practices.
• Ensure inclusive and trauma-informed approaches to stakeholder engagement.
Project Coordination and Implementation • Support the operational delivery of project activities across partner institutions.
• Coordinate recruitment of research participants and assist with project communications.
• Maintain accurate documentation of project activities and outputs.
Toolkit and Training Development • Contribute to the co-design and development of the Equity-in-Research Toolkit and CPD-accredited training materials.
• Assist in developing digital resources, guidance documents and learning materials for researchers.
• Support pilot testing and evaluation of training modules.
Knowledge Translation and Dissemination • Contribute to reports, policy briefs and academic publications arising from the project.
• Support dissemination activities including workshops, conferences and stakeholder engagement events.
• Assist with development of online resources and project communication materials.
Collaboration and Team Contribution • Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary project team across RCSI, UCC and UL.
• Participate in project meetings and contribute to reporting and collaborative activities.
Person Specification Qualifications – (Essential) Candidates must have: • A PhD in a relevant discipline such as public health, social sciences, gender studies, health services research, health policy, higher education research or a related field.
