Principal Engineer (Inspection & Metrology) Division: Trauma & Extremities & Spine Role: Permanent Hybrid Position Summary The Inspection Processes and Metrology Lead Role (also referred to as Pillar Process Lead Role) is an exciting opportunity to lead a technical team of SMEs across a global network. This role is part of the Technical Leadership Team within Advanced Operations TECS whose core purpose is to ensure our engineering community is connected and aligned enterprise wide. The Pillar Lead Role includes: Promoting connectedness, alignment and technical advancement enterprise wide across Stryker's global engineering community. Ownership and development of the Metrology & Inspection Technical Competency and Technology Roadmap across AO TECS. Identifying and introducing new technologies and processes that enable product roadmap and improve cost and time to market (CTM and TTM). Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) in measurement science and GD&T interpretation. Develop, maintain, and improve metrology standards, procedures, and work instructions. Pioneering incremental and step change continuous improvement initiatives, that facilitate NPI to be faster, future-fit and differentiated. Develops an in-depth understanding of the network by working closely with Business Unit Leaders and Divisional Partners to identify the necessity for the creation of new Pillar Processes and provides guidance to facilitate a smooth transition into a functioning Pillar Process. Aligns with the business on digital programs and drives relevant initiatives within TECS. Technical / Leadership Responsibilities The individual will lead the Metrology / Inspection Pillar Process Team to deliver results in line with the Technical Leadership Team purpose and committed deliverables. The individual will facilitate problem solving, leveraging of previous work completed and set technical direction across the network. They will successfully lead the team to deliver key programs and projects per associated timelines, quality requirements within budgetary constraints. Responsible for project and stakeholder management including the technical assessment of all assigned projects. Develop skills matrix in line with product roadmaps identifying the necessary training, mentoring and coaching for team members to ensure that technical and team-based skills are acquired, applied and maintained. The individual will improve the technical competency across the business by coaching and mentoring engineering team members and sitting with people managers to ensure technical content within IDP's is effective and relevant. Leads DFI activities working alongside NPI and R&D teams. Influences product designs to ensure adherence to the highest quality standards, project costs and timelines. Provide direction to the team in complex or difficult situations, remove obstacles and interface with other functions to assist with issue resolution. Responsible for the implementation, enforcement and compliance of all relevant quality, regulatory and safety standards. All other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications (Required): B.S in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline with 8+ years of experience in a Metrology or Inspection related role. Related master's degree or PhD with experience may also be desirable. Proficiency with CMM programming (PC-DMIS, Calypso, etc.), GD&T, and CAD interpretation. Strong knowledge of calibration principles and measurement uncertainty. Experience with quality management systems (ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO/IEC 17025). Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office and statistical analysis tools (e.g., Minitab). Individual should possess strong leadership skills, proven ability to coach and mentor individuals in technical skills and people development areas. Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and measurement system analysis (MSA). Experience with automation and digital metrology solutions. Proven track record overseeing the introduction of new technology from early identification through to the release of an application for serial manufacturing. Strong interpersonal, communication, influencing and presentation skills essential. Innovative Thinker - should be able to express new and better ways of doing things. Flexibility essential with strong project management skills.
