Applications are invited for the position of: Health Care Assistant Cardiology (O'Malley Unit) (Temporary, 12 months 39 hours per week) The above vacancy is available in the Nursing Department, O'Malley Unit on a temporary, full-time basis. The Role: Work under the supervision of the Sister/ Registered nurse at all times. Work on a rotational basis and perform duties under the supervision of a staff nurse. Deliver practical nursing care assistance Collaborate with the nursing staff in helping patients with the activities of daily living. Assist in keeping all unit areas clean and tidy. Cleaning and making up unoccupied beds when necessary. Attending to the hygiene of equipment such as I.V. stands, infusion pumps, hoists, bed cages, patient chairs, commodes and other ward equipment. Attend to spillages by reporting same to housekeeping as quickly as possible in order to prevent accidents. Assist in the disposal of clinical waste according to hospital policy. Assist mobile but disorientated patients to navigate safely around the unit. Delivering specimens to the laboratory when necessary. Checking unit stock and listing those which need re-ordering. Maintaining orderly storage of supplies. Any other duties as assigned by the Unit Manager. The Candidate: FETAC Qualification - Major Award, Level 5. Previous experience (1 year) in a similar role. Excellent communication skills, ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team. Flexibility in work practices this role may involve working nights and weekends.
