Overall Purpose of Position
To take responsibility for the day-to-day activities in the group home. To assist the social care leader in the responsibility for health and safety, programme implementation, personal care plans, budget management, staff planning, staff support and family liaison.
Job Goal
To listen to, learn from, support and work to achieve the priorities of the residents in compliance with the National Standards for Residential Services for Children and Adults with Disabilities 2013 and the Health Care Act 2007 (Care and support of residences in designated centres for persons (Children and Adults) with disabilities) regulations 2013. To provide them with a home-from-home in accordance with CoAction’s Mission Statement.
Responsibilities
* Care for the day-to-day needs of the residents in compliance with the Health Care Act 2007 regulations and all relevant regulations and standards that apply to Children in care.
* Contribute to the promotion, creation and maintenance of a welcoming, caring and supportive environment in the Group Home, ensuring a high standard of care.
* Treat residents with dignity and respect at all times; attend to physical and emotional needs.
* Encourage group participation in day-to-day running of the house (cleaning, budgeting, cooking, menu planning, shopping, recreation activities).
* Assist in providing a programme of stimulating activities and help residents develop hobbies and recreation activities.
* Escort and assist on group outings; ensure residents are not subjected to abuse or bullying.
* Implement agreed service user programmes in liaison with the Social Care Leader.
* Maintain relevant records to a high standard; contribute to hygiene and domestic duties to keep the house clean and tidy.
* Maintain good relationships with clients’ families and other professionals under guidance.
* Participate in staff meetings; ensure health and safety guidelines are followed.
* Report and address accidents/incidents/complaints in line with CoAction policies; keep the Social Care Leader/Area Manager informed.
* Be alert to potential dangers and take appropriate action to reduce risk.
* Develop skills through training; deliver induction and training to residential staff as agreed.
* Carry out day-to-day supervision of staff; contribute to the development of CoAction and services.
* Ensure policies are adhered to; maintain confidentiality within the team.
* Carry out other duties as discussed with the Social Care Leader/Area Manager.
* Teach daily living social skills and administer/record prescribed medication to residents.
* Be an active member of the day/residential team and attend meetings/case conferences as required.
Health & Safety
* Practice correct use of aids and appliances (e.g., hoists).
* Report and document accidents/incidents; be familiar with Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005.
* Report faulty equipment; ensure knowledge of emergency actions and fire safety precautions.
Leadership
* Under direction, manage and support staff including induction, supervision and training in line with Foundation practices and relevant regulations.
* Coordinate and develop individual plans; hold supervision meetings with support staff as directed.
* Ensure staff adhere to Foundation policies and maintain effective communication with residents, families and stakeholders.
* Promote dignity at work and foster resident independence; advocate for person-centred care and handle complaints per policy.
Person Specification
Qualifications, essential skills and experience as listed below. Driving licence is essential.
* Qualifications Essential: A recognised qualification involving a third-level supervised practice element, or a recognised professional qualification for Social Care (examples listed in original post).
* Skills Interpersonal skills; ability to relate to people with intellectual disabilities; flexibility; willingness to learn; initiative; advocacy knowledge; ability to write reports; computer literacy; good communication; leadership ability.
* Experience Essential: Minimum 12 months experience in a residential setting with adults with intellectual disabilities; HIQA knowledge; supervisory experience; budgetary experience; intimate/personal care; record keeping. Desired: HIQA regulations/inspections experience.
Remuneration
* The remuneration for this post will be as per the CoAction 2024 salary scale for a Social Care Worker: €38,108 to €50,954 per annum FTE. This pay scale is subject to increase in 2025 in accordance with the recent WRC agreement for Section 39 organisations.
