The Opportunity
The role will further develop Grant Thornton's Life insurance footprint whilst also contributing to the broader growth of the overall practice. The work will be both challenging and varied exposing you to leading-edge actuarial work in a strategic, commercial and business context and allowing you to develop an impressive range of broad consulting and technical skills that will enhance your career, with a culture of focusing on having fun in your role. You will lead a culture of collaboration and collegiality, in a high-energy environment, where you can work from home as often as you like.
Key requirements will be a strong knowledge of any of these – IFRS17 / EBS / BSCR / USGAAP / Solvency II – with reinsurance, climate risk, capital optimisation, process improvement or quantitative/qualitative risk experience an added advantage.
Examples of consulting projects include Subject Matter Expert review, climate risk, peer reviews, international projects (from Dublin), pricing, market entry, risk, Strategic Asset Allocation, secondment (so a wide variety, depending on what the client wants) and international market research.
Requirements and Opportunities:
Technical
- Relevant experience with some of the following: Financial reporting, Reserving, ALM, ORSA or Risk management, Solvency II
- Independence of thought and ability to challenge colleagues regardless of grade.
- Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving ability.
- Knowledge of the insurance legal and regulatory framework.
- Adaptable, with a keen interest in developing your technical and commercial capabilities.
- Sound knowledge of the life industry and ability to apply that knowledge in practical and commercial situations.

Leadership
- Lead teams and project work streams including project planning, budgeting and performance management of your team members.
- Show leadership in developing service offerings for our clients, identifying upcoming areas of demand driven by regulatory and market trends and actively fostering client relationships.
- Be responsible for identifying current and future skilled resource requirements, organising training, mentoring and recruitment as appropriate to meet those needs.
- Use expert knowledge to manage team members to efficiently and robustly deliver service to client expectations.
