Abbott Ireland Diagnostic Division – Longford
Our Longford facility plays a vital role in meeting the growing global demand for diagnostic testing across infectious disease, cancer, thyroid, and cardiovascular health.

We are currently recruiting for a Process Engineering Technician to join our team. The role will involve the following responsibilities:
Primary Function
Responsible for the hands‑on operation and maintenance of critical plant, utilities, and equipment.
Maximise availability of FUE (Facilities, Utilities & Equipment) and carry out day‑to‑day preventative and demand maintenance activities.
Support manufacturing, facilities, electrical systems, and associated processes.
Ensure all critical plant services and processes are maintained to the highest standards.
Oversee daily maintenance of Clean‑in‑Place (CIP) process skids and related equipment.
Liaise with internal and external engineering personnel and contract maintenance providers for troubleshooting, installation, and commissioning of equipment related to critical FUE or process equipment in manufacturing areas.
Contribute to the Energy Management Programme and support initiatives to reduce energy usage and costs.
Major Responsibilities
Perform daily preventative and demand maintenance activities.
Coordinate and oversee external contractors performing maintenance or breakdown services.
Troubleshoot, fault‑find, and maintain equipment and plant systems to ensure proper operation and service levels.
Develop a strong understanding of cleanroom HVAC systems, equipment, and utilities to diagnose and resolve issues.
Resolve technical problems efficiently to support operations.
Ensure equipment and systems meet legal, divisional, and corporate standards.
Maintain high safety standards and adhere to safe working practices.
Communicate effectively with plant management, corporate teams, and divisional engineering.
Education
A relevant third‑level qualification in Engineering, Science, or a related technical discipline, or a recognised trade qualification with relevant experience, is required to support the responsibilities of this role with a minimum of 3years experience in a similar role. Experience working within a regulated environment would be an advantage.
Hours of Work
4 consecutive days comprising of 2 days and 2 nights and 4 consecutive days off between shifts
Days - 7am to 7pm
Nights - 7pm to 7am
