Senior Electrical Engineer – Galway (Moycullen Area)
A leading Electrical Contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join the team on a Synchronous Condenser and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project located near Moycullen, Co. Galway. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a high-profile energy infrastructure project within a dynamic engineering environment.
Responsibilities
* Develop and review schematic designs and single-line diagrams
* Conduct HV system studies, including protection coordination, arc flash, voltage regulation, load flow, and fault level analysis
* Support the pre-commissioning and commissioning of GIS and AIS substations
* Ensure full compliance with project-specific safety requirements
* Lead detailed design work across HV and LV equipment, control systems, and protection systems
* Manage equipment specification, selection, and procurement
* Prepare and interpret technical specifications, tender documents, and engineering reports
* Assist in developing technical and contract documentation
* Monitor project progress, prepare updates, and support scheduling using MS Project
* Prepare method statements, risk assessments, and maintain document control
* Liaise with clients, design partners, and contractors to resolve technical matters
* Manage on-site technical queries and support the project team through planning, testing, commissioning, and handover
* Assemble bid, approval, and construction drawing packages
* Assess design effectiveness, cost, reliability, and safety—proposing improvements where required
* Oversee prototype build, testing, and modification activities
* Supervise junior engineers and technicians
* Perform additional duties as needed to support successful project delivery
Requirements
* Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering
* 5+ years' experience as an Electrical Project Engineer within the HV energy or renewable sector
* Strong written and verbal communication abilities
* Excellent attention to detail and confidence managing deadlines
* Ability to positively influence stakeholders at all levels
* A collaborative, team-oriented approach with a focus on high performance
