The role also includes part-time dissertation supervision in the Faculty of Design.
We are seeking a Lecturer who is enthusiastic and passionate about emerging design methodologies, history and theory, material culture, and multidisciplinary design, and about the opportunity to share that knowledge with the designers of the future. In this supervisory role you will guide learners to critically analyse key current issues, contemporary discourses, and theories associated with design and related practices. The successful candidate will encourage students to engage with contemporary issues in their own design practice and to critically reflect on concepts and debates relevant to design in both local and global contexts. Practice‑based design research is an advantage.

This core module will be the culmination of the learner’s study. Learners will explore, through research and writing, subjects deemed worthy of academic investigation or the expansion and development of new ideas through practice. The learner may select to present an academic dissertation or a dissertation by practice.

Mode: Full Time (Day) – Week 1‑6: Tuesday morning from 9.15 to 11.15 am. Week 1‑6 Friday afternoons from 2.30 to 3.30 pm.
Contact Hours: 24 hours.
Dissertation Supervision – Tuesday morning from 11.30 to 1.30 pm; hours depending on student dissertation numbers.

Guidelines for Mock Lecture
As part of the interview process, candidates are required to give a 5–10 minute mock lecture to an interview panel acting as students.
The lecture should cover an item (or items) of the candidate’s choice from an existing (or proposed) course offered by the Faculty or Department. The candidate may use whatever medium and teaching aids are appropriate, including laptop and projector, but is encouraged to use new technology.
The lecture should not be the first lecture in a course or an overview of a course. It should focus on explaining a particular aspect of the course to students who are unfamiliar with the topic. The lecturer should begin by outlining any previous information that the students are expected to know (e.g., “I’m assuming you know how to … we covered last week”). Questions will be asked of the lecturer, either during or after the lecture.
